==USS Zion==

Life was very busy in the security section. Melissa had several more prisoners to interview, and a meeting with base security about the Forrester assault but up next was a meeting with Lieutenant Peter Cole from JAG. He was assigned to investigate the actions of Crewman Wilson.

Melissa entered the transporter room. "Good morning chief."

"Good morning Lieutenant. Lieutenant Cole is ready to be beamed aboard," said the transporter chief.

"Energize."

The transporter began to whine and slowly the from of Lieutenant Cole appeared on the transporter pad. Melissa stepped forward. "Hello Lieutenant Cole. I am Melissa Jarvis, Chief of Security." Melissa extended her hand to him.

Cole shook Melissa's hand. "Nice to meet you Lieutenant."

Melissa led Cole to her office. She offered him something from the replicator, which was politely declined.

"What can you tell me about Crewman Wilson," asked Cole.

Melissa made a pretense of giving the question some thought. The truth be told she had thoroughly prepared for this questions. "Wilson joined the Zion when the ship was commissioned. He handled himself with distinction in both the Kittyhawk investigation as well as our most recent battle." Melissa handed Cole a PADD. "Here is a statement from his shift supervisor. He attended his shifts at the appropriate time and up until the tragic event he appeared to be loyal to the ship and her crew."

Cole took the PADD and set it in his lap. "In your report you stated that his motive was revenge for the death of his brother, who died on the Kityhawk. Has there been any proof that these med were involved in the Kittyhawk attack?"

"Other than the statement from our Chief Medical Officer we have uncovered not additional information to corroborate that," said Melissa.

"I will want to talk to your Chief Medical Officer," said Cole.

"I will arrange that Sir," said Melissa.

"How about the brother," asked Cole. "Where you able to uncover any more information about his brother."

"No Sir," answered Melissa. "We searched his personal belongings and were unable to find any references about his family. There is no record of him having a brother in his record and his parents are both listed as dead."

"One final, thing. I was at the academy and talked to their Chief counselor. I was able to determine that Crewman Wilson did undergo a psychcological evaluation while at the academy. It was omitted from his record for some unknown reason. I will forward it to you for your review."

"Thank you Sir," said Melissa. "Shall we go to Sickbay and see of the doctor has a free moment to meet with you?"

Cole nodded and Melissa led the way to sickbay

=Sams Quarters=

Sam was tired she had worked a double shift at the request of Ensign Little.

He had not seen his girlfriend for ages and wanted to take her to a concert.

Unfortunately last night was the last time concert was at QulTug. And Sam being a softy had agreed to take over his shift.

She rubbed her eyes as she entered her room. Luckily Charles was not there, she didn't feel much like talking. She walked to the shower while peeling of

her uniform, when her sleeve got caught on her ring. "Well that does not work", she mumbled to herself. Sam took off the ring and put it in the black

box Charles had left on the bed stand. It might be better to wear it on a necklace so she could hide it under her uniform.

Sam walked back to the shower when she noticed a pending message on her console. It was from Charles telling her that she should report to Commander

Wright regarding her pending transfer.

"Ah well," she muttered. "No rest for the weary."

Quickly taking her so needed shower, Sam pulled out a clean uniform and ordered a cheessandwich from the replicator. While nibbling her sandwich she

sat down writing her application on a padd. She yawned. Taking a last bit she took her padd and headed out the door to Commander Wright's office.

== Wright's office==

Sam straightened her uniform and ran her hands through her hair before hitting the door chime

"Enter," said wright.

"Good morning commander", she said. "I received a message that you wanted to

see me regarding my transfer?" Sam swallowed the lump in her throat, somehow

the commander always made her a little bit nervous

"Yes, it is my understanding that you need to be transferred out of the Intel department and that you wish to go to Security. Is that what you want," asked Wright.

Sam nodded, "Yes Sir, very much".

"I understand that you are involved in a new relationship with Lieutenant Atwood."

"That is correct Sir", Sam responded.

"You are aware that Melissa Jarvis is the new Chief of Security," he asked. "Wouldn't this be a rather difficult situation to put yourself in?"

Sam looked at the Commander. "Sir, she said, we are adults and Maqui officers. "I am fully confident that this will not jeopardize our working relation ship Sir. I am fully capable of keeping work and private issues separate."

Wright looked at Sam. He did not really believe Sam. The captain had breifed him on the situation between her and Atwood and he was certain that this was not going to lead to anything good. Still he did not have much of a choice. Sam's skills were best suited for security.

"Very well, you will report to Lieutenant Jarvis tomorrow and she will give you your assignment."

"Yes sir, thank you Sir," Sam responded. "Am I dismissed Sir?"

"Unless you have any other questions to ask. You are dismissed."

=USS Zion Sickbay=

Melissa lead the JAG officer to sick bay. Noticing that the doctor was in her office Melissa left Cole in the reception area and politely interrupted her. "Excuse me Doctor Dane."

Teilani looked up, seeing Lieutenant Jarvis and a guest. "Good morning Lieutenant Jarvis, what can I do for you."

"I have a Lieutenant Cole from the JAG office here with me. He is investigating the murder suicide involving Crewman Wilson. He has asked to speak with you. Do you have a few minutes? If you are too busy, I can have him come back at another time."

"No it's is alright," said Teilani.

Melissa retrieved Cole from the reception area and into the doctor's office.

"Please have a seat Lieutenant Cole, Lieutenant Jarvis." Teilani gestured to some chairs.

Melissa waited for Cole to sit down and then she sat in the chair next to him.

"Thank you for seeing me doctor. I just have a few questions about the incident involving Crewman Wilson. This should not take long. First of all, were you able to discover anything unusual during the post mortem study on their bodies?"

"Unfortunately there was not much left of them, Sir", Teilani explained. "So the post mortem was inconclusive."

"I see." Cole flipped through notes on his PADD. "I understand that you were the one who reported the prisoners as spys?"

"That is correct Sir", Teilani responded.

"Are you certain that these men were on the Kittyhawk," asked Cole.

Teilani was quiet for a moment. She had asked herself this question a 1000 times. "Yes Sir, I am very certain."

"According to the security reports their presence in your sickbay seemed to have upset you?"

"That is also very true Sir", Teilani responded. "I had never expected to see anybody directly related to the Kitty hawk especially those who belonged to the boarding parties."

"Would you characterise yourself as hysterical?"

Teilani squeezed her eyes before she answered. "No Sir, far from it".

"How well did you know Crewman Donald Wilson. The dead crewmember," asked Cole.

"On occasion I met him in the corridors or saw him in the messhal but we never actually met Sir," Teilani responded.

"According to surveillance video Crewman Wilson escorted the prisoners to their assigned quarters and then they killed them both in cold blood while they begged with him for their lives. Did you know this?"

"Oh my god", Teilani said with an outburst. "No sir I …… I didn't know that. If I knew that he was going to do something to them I would never have allowed them to leave Sickbay."

Cole ignored her, "Interestingly enough, while they were begging for their lives they said you were mistaken about them. Crewman Wilson told them your word was good enough for him. He then shot them dead." Cole placed strong emphasis on the last three words to get his point across. "Would you say that you wanted them dead doctor?"

Teilani rose from her chair and walked across the room, crossing her arms, looking at her own reflection in the window. Then she turned back to Lieutenant Cole. "No, I wanted to bring them to justice, to pay for what they had done, not pay with their lives. There are already too many lives lost……….. Sir." She responded quiet and calmly.

"Are you sure doctor, perhaps you were not really upset when you saw them, perhaps you wanted it to get out that they were here. Maybe you even manipulated crewman Wilson into taking care of them so you, the good doctor, did not have to get your hands dirty." Cole had also stood up and was looking at the doctor.

Teilani's eyes were shooting lightning, she was furious. "How dare you accuse me!"

Melissa was quite stunned. She did not see how the Lieutenant could make such an accusation. She watched the doctor and Cole stare each other down for a few seconds and then stood up. "Ok, that is enough." She tapped her comm badge. "Command Wright to sickbay please."

"Acknowledged," came Wright's reply.

"I am afraid I have to ask you to stop this interview and wait until the commander gets here." Melissa turned to the doctor. "Doctor, I advise you to not say anything further until the commander gets here."

Teilani nodded. Cole looked at Melissa and said, "You are dismissed Lieutenant."

"I am sorry Sir but I will not comply. You may lodge a complaint with Commander Wright, however, my job is to protect this ship and her crew." Melissa addressed Cole in a calm but serious manner.

Wright entered sickbay and walked into the very tense situation in the doctor's office. "What is going on here?"

Melissa looked to Wright. "Sir, the Lieutenant is here conducting an investigation into the crewman Wilson case. I had thought he was going to ask routine questions but it seem he is now accusing the doctor."

Cole did not even wait for Wright to speak. "Sir, it is my belief that the doctor manipulated crewman Wilson into murdering those prisoners."

"Mister Cole, are you intending to bring charges against my Chief Medical Officer?" Wright's voice was calm but there was an icy coldness about it.

"Not at this time Sir. I will when I find the evidence to support my beliefs," said Cole.

"I see," Wright now looked Cole directly in the eyes. "Is it the practice of JAG officers to bring accusations before they have enough evidence to prove them?"

"No Sir."

"Indeed." Wright was astonished by the Lieutenants behaviour."Mister Cole I will not tolerate your abuse of this ships crew. You are not to interview any more of my crew without myself or Captain Hunter being present."

Cole bristled, "You cannot obstruct my investigation." He turned and pointed at Melissa. "She has already disobeyed a direct order. It is a crime to obstruct a JAG investigation," Cole shouted.

Wright looked to Melissa. "Sir", she said, "I did not think it was wise to leave as ordered until you arrived."

Wright's eyes narrowed, "Are you intending to bring charges against my Security Chief?" Wrights voice was now dangerous.

"No Sir."

"I have no intention of obstructing your investigation. It seems that my crew need protection from you."

"Do you have any more questions for the doctor or anyone else," Wright asked.

"Not at this time Sir," Cole replied.

"If you need any more questions answered please let me know and I will arrange an interview. You are dismissed Lieutenant." Turning to Melissa. "Kindly escort Lieutenant Cole back to the station."

Melissa and Cole left sickbay Wright sat down in the chair that Cole had just been in and said, "Anything more you want to talk about doctor?"

"Teilani turned towards Wright. She was furious. "Am I under investigation Sir?"

"Calm down doctor." Wright began. "You are not under any official investigation that I am aware of."

"I had nothing to do with the deaths of those people. Heck I didn't even know crewman Wilson."

"Doctor, if I thought you did you would be sitting in that chair and I would not be about to give you this." Wright slid a black box emblazoned with the Maquis crest on top across the doctor's desk. " I hope this will make your day a little better. "You are hereby promoted to Lieutenant Junior grade." Wright stood up and extended his hand to the doctor. "Congratulations Lieutenant."

Teilani took the box from her desk and opened it, revealing a new black pip.

She got a big smile on her face. "I never had a bad day Sir but thank you, I never expected this", while shaking Wrights hand.

"There is no mirror here, so would you mind Sir", she asked hesitantly. Handing the pip to commander Wright.

"Sure thing," Wright took the pip and placed it on the collar of her uniform. "There you go Doctor. Do not worry about Cole, he was out of line. I will discuss it with the captain and JAG if necessary."

"Yes Sir, appreciate that", Teilani said. "If you will excuse me Sir,I need to continue with my duties".

After her meeting with Commander Wright Sam decided to take the bull by the horns and report to Lieutenant Jarvis.

She sighed, hopefully this was going to be a smooth meeting. Sam realized that Lieutenant Jarvis would probably be not happy to see her. But Sam was confident that they could work out their differences and at least maintain a good working relationship.

"Computer locate Lieutenant Jarvis", she asked. Lieutenant Jarvis is in her office, the reply came back.

Sam took the turbo lift and headed to the Security Office. She took some deep breaths before hitting the door chime.

Melissa was clearing several old security logs from the system when the door chime rang. She looked out the window of her office and could see Sam Carter standing there. She had earlier received a message from the Commander telling her about the department transfer and the reason why. Melissa was not at all looking forward to having Sam working in security but she supposed she would have to deal with her sooner or later. "Enter."

"Good morning Lieutenant Jarvis", Sam said. "Lieutenant JG Samantha Carter reporting for duty Ma'am." Sam placed the PADD on Melissa's desk took a step back and stood straight to attention.

Melissa took the PADD and skimmed through it. "At ease Lieutenant, please have a seat." Melissa gestured to the chair in front of her desk.

Sam turned around and took a seat at the chair Melissa pointed at.

Melissa did not say anything. She looked at Sam, their eyes making contact. She quietly probed her feelings for the woman who had stolen Atwood's heart. The last few days had been a rollercoaster ride and she had not had the time to give her much thought. She briefly considered assigning her to gamma shift armory duty but decided that was more out of spite. Carter's experience and qualifications earned her better than that. Reluctantly, she decided. "Welcome to Security Lieutenant Carter." Melissa put on her friendliest smile. "You are assigned to Alpha shift. You are to stand guard on the bridge and you will back me up at the bridge security station when I have other matters to attend to."

Sam looked back at Melissa. She was glad she did not mention anything about Atwood. "I understand Ma'am, thank you."

"Permission to resume my new duty, Ma'am?, Sam asked. Alpha shift meaning duty from 0800-1600hrs, not bad Sam thought. That would leave her enough time to catch up on some new encryption/decryption procedures.

"This bridge position has been covered until 58204.22. You will start then." Melissa paused. "However, you might have noticed all of the prisoners we have." She gestured out towards the brig. I could use some help interviewing them."

Sam nodded.

"Those who are requesting to defect are being left at the station. Only the loyal or dangerous Federation and cardassian prisoners are being sent to Rura Pente. It is our job to sort them all out."

"Yes Ma'am, Sam responded. I will be glad to assist you in this matter."

"Wonderful." Melissa was pleased to have the extra help. She downloaded the prisoners left to be interviewed into a PADD and handed it to her. "Here is a list of prisoners that need interviews. Please be careful, some of them are very accomplished at telling lies. If you think for one second that they are lying to you send them to Rura Pente." Melissa looked at Sam. "Any questions?"

"No Ma'am", Sam responded while looking at the list of names.

"Carry on Lieutenant," said Melissa.

The doors of the Holodeck hissed when they opened. The computer had told Ryan that someone was using his private program. He looked around and saw Lt. Lorance sitting on the grass. She looked around in amazement. ‘Pretty spectacular isn’t it?” Ryan asked with a smile. She looked up at him and started to come up. He gestured her she could stay down. “Sir. I didn’t hear you come in.” Despite the noisy doors Ryan believed her. “Lt. this is a private program so… why are you here?” “Alice wanted to show Tanya something before they would go to wonderland.” Lt. Lorance said. Ryan sad down next to her “Does this place actually exists on earth sir?” “Yes, it’s a part of the Greek island Crete.” Ryan said. “But if it is a public place why do you have this in your private collection?” “Because Anna, mind if I call you Anna.” “That is your prerogative, sir.” Ryan could hear she didn’t like it. “In here you can call me Ryan or Rusty.” She looked surprised. “Why that sir? … Rusty” “Well Anna this is not a public place, it’s my house. Or rather my program of my house and the surrounding land. You see Anna everything you see between these 5 mountains is my land. And that hacienda over there is my house.” He gestured around and pointed to the tiny dot halfway on the opposing mountain. “It’s terrific.” She said. “Daddy, Daddy!” Alice yelled from bellow. “What is it honey?” “Can we go to wonderland now?” Ryan smiled. “Its Tanya’s program ask her mom.” “mommy!” Tanya yelled quickly. “alright sweetheart! Computer Activate wonderworld. Start at level 1.” She said.

The scenery changed. Anna and rusty suddenly sat in a lounge. With a big window that looked into a playground. Alice and Tanya where on the other side of the window, Ryan saw that Tanya was already showing Alice everything there was to see. “What is this place?” Ryan asked. “its an educative fun program. They have to get through levels by answering questions and doing tasks. When they get everything right they get to go to a higher level, with more toys and more fun.” Anna explained. Only trouble is we have to watch carefully cause we need to go up the stairs when they get to a higher level.” Anna walked to a replicator. “What would you like to drink major?” She asked. “A coffee Ignis please.” Ryan said as he sat down. Anna got the drinks and sat down as well. “So I heard you had a meeting with The Chief Intelligence officer. Mister Atwood.” “Yes.” Ryan said short. “And?” “I can’t tell you anything about it.” “For the black ops team.” She said self assured. Ryan smiled, her tactic was good but he wasn’t going to give anything away. “So what do you think of these strange anomaly’s we’ve been having?” “we’ll here there just annoying but on the Atlanta it already lead to a small explosion. But Tanya walked into a un opening door twice yesterday.” “Yeah Alice food didn’t kept its warmth for more then 2 minutes had to replicate her a plate 6 times.”

A buzzer sounded. “That means we have to get up a level. She walked to the stairs and walked upward. The stairs reminded Ryan of those on Qul Tuq’s Promenade. They got into a different more luxurious lounge. “This is very pleasant.” Ryan said as he sat down on the far more comfortable chairs. “Well they reward smart kids but they don’t forget there parents.” Ryan laughed but was interrupted by a scream he recognized as being Alice. He jumped up and walked to the window but he didn’t see his daughter. Suddenly the didn’t feel the floor beneath him. He fell down 3 meters and landed on his arm he heard a loud crack coming from inside his arm and pain screamed trough his nerves. Then the entire program deactivated itself and Anna fell down as well. She landed on 1 lag breaking it. Ryan looked around to see his daughter. He pushed himself up with his one arm and rand toward her. His body burned with pain, but Ryan didn’t notice. He only notice that Alice hadn’t moved. He landed beside her. She had a ugly wound on her head. He was paralyzed with fear but he heard Anna in the distance, she gave a command. Suddenly all was white and then there was sickbay.

Teilani was attending to ensign Forrester who was getting better day by day. At least the physical part of it. As for the mental part, Teilani had her doubts. This was going to be a job for the Counselor.

As she turned around to update the medical records, Teilani saw the shimmer of a transporter beam. And in a matter of seconds 2 people appeared in sickbay.

Teilani recognized Major Madriani and his daughter Alice. The fear on the Majors face was clearly visible.

Ryan was out of breath. "Holodeck malfunction. fell down 10 feet. bad wound." Was all he could say. He was loosing blood at a high rate.

Teilani did not hesitate for second. "Put her on the bio bed." Teilani tapped at the medical console, displaying Alice's vital signs. The little girl had a big gash at her head and was unconscious. Teilani quickly placed the neural stimulator on Alice's head. The signs were erratic but regular. She took the regenerator and healed the wound on the little girls head. She only needed to wait until the stimulator had done its job. She used the hypospray with a combination of tri-ox and inaprovaline, to increase the healing.

"You must save her doc. She's all I got left." He held up his arm to stop the bleeding. He stood next Teilani and looked at his daughter.

Teilani nodded. "She is going to be fine Major, Teilani said calmly. "Please sit down and let me see your arm". Major Madriani, Teilani ordered, I SAID SIT DOWN!"

"Where's Anna and Tanya? They fell down too." Ryan looked around. "Maybe the transporter didn't lock onto them. You must send a paramedic team." He said as she pushed him down onto the Bio bed. He held up his arm.

Teilani tapped her combadge: Alpha team - medical emergency in holodeck 3. Two possible casualties. Report back to me a.s.a.p."

Alpha team here, we are on our waÿ."

Finally Teilani managed to get the Major on one of the biobeds. She looked at his arm which was clearly broken. Blood gushed out of the cut, she grabbed the derma regenerator again and managed to close the cut.

"Now this is going to hurt Major", she explained while pulling softly at his arm, holding the hypospray with some sedation and pain releave ready. Shepressed it against Ryans upper arm, numming the broken bone, making it easier for her to pull it back in place. Once in place Teilani reached for the bone regenerator and moved it gently over his arm.

Suddenly a beep went off at the bio bed where Alice was lying. Teilani swirled around assessing what kind of alarm it was.

“What, what?!?!” Ryan was hysterical. He got up on the bed and tried to get off. This couldn’t be happening to her, not her.

"No Mayor, stay right where you are!". Let me do my job, Teilani ordered seriously.

Ryan got up anyway but was hold back by 2 male nurses. “Stay calm sir.” One of them said.

Luckily the beep only indicated that Alice was regaining consiousness. She slowly opened her eyes.

"Hey princes, Teilani said. "How are you feeling?"

Ryan heard Teilani talking to his daughter he got back up, one of the nurses held him down again. Ryan took his good arm and gave him a hit on the jaw. The other one came at him with a hypo but Ryan pinched him just below his midriff, it caused him to automatically breath out all air in his longs causing him to fall over. Ryan got of the bed and walked on his knees to his daughters bed.

“Alice, do you hear me say something.” “daddy” she said weakly. “daddy my head hurts.” “Its going to be fine dear. All will be fine.”

Alpha team to Dr Dane. "Dane here, Teilani responded. "We have found the other casualties Doctor, they are going to be fine, just some bruises and bumps."

"Very well, good job Alpha Team."

Teilani looked at Major Madriani. "Have you heard Sir, your friends are going to be fine."

Ryan nodded absently. “Very well doctor. Thank you…” He climbed on Alice her bed and took her in his arms. “You scared me sweetheart.” “Sorry daddy.” “Don’t be.”

Melissa Jarvis was just about to leave her office when the chime rang again. "Enter," she said. Looking up at the door.

A Chief Petty Officer entered. "Chief Petty Officer Johnson reporting as ordered." He handed Melissa a PADD with his orders on.

Melissa looked over his orders. "I see you were a member of the KIttyhawk," she asked thinking of the Crewman Wilson affair. "Have you been evaluated by a counselor?" The last thing she wanted was another tragedy.

"Yes Sir. I have been checked out and will have regular session with the Zion's Ships Counselor." He could tell she was hesitant to take him on. "I have been clear to return to duty Sir. I just want to get back to work."

"Very well Chief. I can use you an gamma shift in the armory." She looked at him closely, "Make sure to get your appointments scheduled with the counselor,"

"Aye Sir. Thank you Sir."

"Dismissed." said Melissa.

She watched Johnson leave and then she left too. She decided to go to Miranda's to relax a bit. It had been a long day. She entered Miranda's and noticed it was fairly busy there already. She made her way to the long bar and sat down. She waved at Miranda who came down the bar towards her.

"Hello Lieutenant, Congratulation on you new position." Miranda looked her Melissa carefully and said, "Joy."

"Excuse me," asked Melissa.

"You look like you need some joy. I have just the thing." Miranda began mixing a drink by hand she did not even go to the replicator. "It is called a Zidalian Fizz." Miranda placed a glass of dull brown liquid on front of Melissa.

"It doesn't look very fizzy to me," said Melissa dubiously.

"Ah, but wait." Melissa placed a pinch of what looked like sugar into the glass and it instantly foamed up over the top of the glass and turned a vibrant crystal blue color. "It is guaranteed to make you smile."

Melissa doubted that but she picked up the glass and drank it. It had a strange fruity flavor and the foam tickled her nose, which of course made her smile. Melissa giggled as she put the glass down on the bar. It was not a deep purple color. "It changes color."

"Indeed it does," said Miranda. "just make sure you finish it before it turns green. It goes bad when it turns green."

"How long before that happens?"

Miranda shrugged, "anywhere from ten minutes to ten hours."

Melissa laughed again, "Thank you Miranda.

"Any time Melissa. I have plenty of new drinks to test out." Miranda smiled and went to serve another customer.

As Highwaij stood in the turbolift he waited until it stopped before he got out on deck 8, and walked to Sickbay which he entered and looked around "Excuse me can you help me," he said to a blond female nurse “I've to report to the CMO"

Ally looked at the Ferengi. She did not particularly liked the species as they were obnoxious, nosy and everything more. "Dr Dane is in her office," she said pointing towards it.

Highwaij walked to the office which he entered. "Excuse me Doctor Dane," he asked.

"Yes good afternoon," Teilani responded looking at Zion's newest security member. "What can I do for you, ensign?"

"I'm Ensign Highwaij, just transferred to this ship. I had to report to you for a physical check," Highwaij said laughing showing his teeth. "And my I say you're look very smart, " he said a little bow.

Teilani arched an eyebrow, then she laughed. "Well thank you for the compliment Ensign Highwaij. If you would like to follow me to the main sickbay, we can get your physical done right away." Both Teilani and Ensign Highwaij walked to the main sickbay. "Please Ensign, have a seat. Tell me do you have any prior medical problems?" Waiting for his answer Teilani took her scanner and started to scan

"Me having medical problems? “I'm as how do they say that on earth as healthy as a fish on the dryland,” Highwaij said as he sat down hoping that she didn't noticed that he waited a few seconds before speaking.

Hmmm, Teilani said questionably. "You hesitated there for a second ensign, are you sure you are telling me the truth?" Believe me it is easier to tell me than to wait for the results of the scan."

"As I said doc, I'm all fine. never had any problems" Highwaij said "I heard you liked Jamaican coffee, you're lucky I got some real Jamaican coffee right here, let me give it to you. It came straight from earth. Perhaps you will know say that I'm all fit," Highwaij said holding out a bag filled with Jamaican coffee

Teilani put the tricorder back in her pocket. Her face became stern. "Ensign thank you for your offer but I can not accept this. You better give it to our lounge manager Miranda so that everyone can enjoy real coffee. Ensign I will let this go by as if it has not happened but next time I have to report you to your superior for bribing.”

“Now are you sure you will not tell me the truth”, Teilani said with a little smile around her lips. Those Ferengi's never changed in what ever profession they occupied.

"I told you the truth doc, I'm and have always been very healthy" Highwaij said showing his teeth again in another big smile "I would never bribe a Maqui officer, I brought this coffee for you, a friend told me to give this to you. Jeffrey Alan Dane, I believe you know him" Highwaij said hoping this would explain it. And he would be disappointed as he hared about you spending a night in the Captain's room

"Jeffrey," she said. "You know my brother? I have not seen him in ages. The contact between us is not that good. Teilani became suspicious, her brother would never fraternize with a ferengi. "Where do you know my brother from. Is he alright?" “By the way as for me spending the night in the captains quarters, that is not your nor my brothers concern."

"I know, I know" Highwaij said, just mentioned it . "I met you're brother while I was on earth, I helped him out in a bar fight, since he was the only one whom could bring me quickly to the starbase" Highwaij said.

"As he brought me, he heard I was going to the Zion he gave me these for you, and asked me to give them to you. Hoping you would contact him" Highwaij said "Now tell me doc how do my results look?”

Well that did sound like her brother's doing always helping out others, Teilani thought. "Your readings are fine Ensign. You are fine to resume your duties."

"Very well doc, perhaps you can tell me where I can find either our Chief Counselor or our Chief Security" Highwaij said. "And might I say it's a pleasure doing business with you"

"Thank you ensign," Teilani responded. "As for our counselor, I have not seen her for a few days so it might be that she is visiting friends at the Starbase. As for our chief of security she might be in her office. You can always ask the computer for their correct locations."

"Very well" Highwaij said as he got up. "Security office then let's see that would be deck 5. See you around doc, perhaps in the future we can do some business" he said as he left

“Maybe Ensign, maybe.” Teilani looked as she saw Ensign Highwaij leaving sickbay. A Ferengi onboard the Zion. How crazier could it get?

Loss "

John Wright had had a rough day and he wanted badly to go into Miranda's and have a good strong drink. He knew that to give in to that desire would cause nothing but trouble. Instead Wright left the bridge and went to his quarters. Sitting down at his desk, he carefully opened a drawer. Wright took out a ornate box and placed it on the desk in front of him.

Wright glanced at a picture he kept on the corner of his desk. It was a picture of him and a stunning vulcan woman, his wife T'Pril. He had met her during their service on the USS Comfort, a Federation hospital ship. It was this very day 8 years ago that when the Comfort's command staff decided to defect and it was this day 8 years ago that Wright had lost his wife in a battle as the Federation tried to stop them from defecting.

Wright briefly placed his hands on the cover of the box. The desire to have a drink burned within him as he felt the cool stone lid. Wright let go of the box and went into the fresher. He took a shower and when emerged he wore a vulcan robe. Wright took the box from his desk and sat down with it on the floor of his living area.

Opening the box he removed a candle with an ornate stand and placed it on the floor. Taking another device from the box he lit the candle and instructed the computer to turn the lights off. Wright began to focus his attention on the flame of the candle before too long the desire for drink had fled and images began to fill his mind.

*** "Humans are too emotional to learn meditation. Your minds are never empty of emotion." said T'Pril as she looked across the candle to Wright.

"Teach me, " said Wright as he looked across the pale flame of the candle. He had to admit he was finding it hard to concentrate on meditation with such a beautiful teacher.

"Very well," said T'Pril. "focus all of your attention on the flame. Let go of all thoughts and feelings..." ***

The memory of their meditation time slowly faded from Wright's mind as he continued to focus on the candle. A single tear rolled down the side of his face as still another memory came to his mind. *** Wright stood next to T'Pril in the common lounge on the USS Comfort. They were surrounded by their friends. T'Pril wore a purple vulcan ceremonial robe and Wright wore his dress uniform. Next to T'Pril was an elderly Vulcan also wearing a purple vulcan robe. Standing before them was Captain John Po of the USS Comfort.

"T'Pril of Vulcan do you agree to take Jonathon Wright as your Husband in good times and bad for as long as you both shall live?" Captain Po smiled at T'Pril

"Yes," said T'Pril.

Wright watched the look on Po's face and she simply answered his question. Po had clearly not expected this answer. To Po's credit he recovered quickly and turned to Wright "And do you Jonathon Wright take T'Pril of Vulcan as your wife in good times and bad for as long as you both shall live"

Wright looked at T'Pril smiled and said ,"Yes."

***

Commander John Wright continued to focus on the candle as the memory of his wedding began to fade. More tears began to trail down the side of his face but still the memories returned.

***

Wright looked at his new bride. They say facing one another on their bed.

"Are you ready to begin," asked T'Pril.

Wright knew that this was an important vulcan ritual to her. "I am."

She took Wright's right hand and placed his finger tips against the side of her face, She likewise placed her fingertips on the side of his face. "My mind to your mind," she began. Wrights heart began to beat faster. "Your thoughts to my thoughts. Bonded are we now. Never shall we be apart."

It was like a window opening. Suddenly Wright could feel the presence of her mind. It was a strong and disciplined mind. It was the most magnificent thing he had ever experienced in his life. As their arms folded around each other in an embrace he was overwhelmed with the intense feeling of love and to his astonishment she was sharing her love for him.

***

The candle flickered and Wright felt calm, no more tears fell but he knew there was one more memory he must face. The most painful one. Trying with all his might to bottle up his emotions he continued to focus on the flame.

***

The red alert klaxon flashed in the corridors. The captains automated abandon ship order was being broadcast through out the ship. Wright ran through the ship. cold fear swept through him. He feel her pain. She was injured and needed him. He reached their quarters and found the door blocked by debris. "T'Pril," he shouted as he began throwing debris out of his way. EPS conduits sparked and the lights flickers as ships was rocked with another explosion. He had to find her soon. "T'Pril he shouted again." Wight stopped tossing debris and listened. The he heard a sound. Frantically he clear away the debris until at last he found her. Her wounds were bad and she was covered in blood.

"John.." she said

"Not now we have to get off the ship." Wright picked her up and carried her to the nearest escape pod section. Placing her in the pod he climbed in after her and jettisoned the pod.

"John," said T'Pril in a weak voice. "I am not going to make it."

"We will get you some help T'Pril. Just hang on." said Wright.

She reached up and touched his face. "I... Love..." Wright watched as the life left his wife. There was emptiness in his mind. Where once his loving companion had dwelt in him there was nothing now...that was perhaps the worst pain Wright had ever felt in his life. Wright screamed in agony.

***

Wright was calm now. He reached out and snuffed the flame out. He was exhausted. He curled up into a ball on the floor and fell asleep. It was done.
