=Quarters Rusty Ryan=

Ryan laid his daughter down on her bed, careful not to wake her. He walked to the living space and sat behind his desk. He had taken Commander Stable to the brig on the marine deck and would deal with him in the morning. He was tired but he had to read a specific report about what happened in engineering. Ensign L.O.W. Life. He took up the PADD and started reading.

“Report By: ENSIGN Lenard Owly Will Life

Regarding: The taking of Engineering

Squad Leader: Lt j.g.. Dick E.A. Dullard.

Status of report: General, open document.

Mission started at 18:35. We where beamed aboard the USS Eagle with a team of 15 people 2 decks above Engineering. Lt Dullard went ahead. We got pretty close to engineering without any hostile force. 2 corridors before the main entrance we walked right into an ambush of 5 anti personnel mines 2 of our men where taken out, both later died in sickbay. After al mines where detonated we proceeded. We scanned engineering before we went in and read 17 life sings. Despite my objection Lt Dullard said we could take them all out. Our demolitionist blew the door open and we stormed in. at opening the door 3 immediately vaporized leaving us with 6 men. We got into the center killing 5 of them. After what seemed like an eternity, later found to be 47 seconds. 3 others of us where killed, Dullard was among them. The structure in the group was lost and the remaining marines started shooting at random after 90 seconds I was the only survivor we eliminated all Feds. I scanned the room and surrounding rooms but did not find any life sings. When the Chief engineer beamed aboard it became apparent that my tricorder must have malfunctioned. However the remaining Federation boarding party’s where eliminated and arrested without loss of life on our side.

End of Report”

Ryan re-reads it. Big mistakes where made and he was convinced that the ensign didn’t tell the truth. He would look into the matter in a couple of days. His first concern was writing a temporary report for the captain.

“Report By: Major Ryan S. Madriani

Regarding: Successful Takeover USS Eagle.

Report Status: Level 7 or higher.

This report concerns the successful takeover of the USS Eagle By Squadron Theta under the Command of Major Madriani. Squadron Theta consisted in this mission of: Squadron Delta 50 marines plus 2 officers and under the command of Lieutenant Senior Grade Liv’och under the command of Major Madriani. It was divided into 4 teams in witch…” Ryan entered the manifest of 3 teams. Then he added his own.

“Team 1 (alpha):

Major Ryan S. Madriani – CO

Chief Petty Officer Alice Knight – Sniper and XO (Wounded in action)

Crewmen Will Anderson – Demolitionist (Wounded in action)

Lance corporal T’lar – Engineer

Lance Corporal Ramirez - Gunmen

Sergeant Wellington – Gunmen

Ensign Danielle Moore – Medic

Crewmen Jeff Goldbloom – Gunmen

Crewmen I’list Invager – Gunmen

Two shooting incidents stopped our advance to the bridge. The first was shortly after beam in. the Federation Crewmen where giving the option to surrender but refused. They where eliminated. The second was in the meeting room on deck 1 just before entering the bridge. Also here all enemies are eliminated. On the bridge there was no resistance and Commander Stable surrendered without a fight. The other teams leaders have filled a person specific report witch you will find enclosed in my attachment, now the numbers.

Casualties – 16

Injured – 5 (1 severe)

Overall the mission was a success. Almost all civilians have been saved the ones that are dead where so before we arrived.

This concludes my temporally report more information will be handed to you once its gets available, and after the interrogation of commander Stable. Singed:

Major Ryan Steven Madriani MCO USS Zion.”

Ryan gave the report a read trough and logged it. He fell back into his chair the door opened and his daughter entered the room. “Why aren’t you asleep?” “I heard you work.” She leaned against him. Ryan took her in his arms and sat on the couch. “Its all right dear. It’s all-safe now. You can go back to sleep.” “I’m not sleepy.” She said with a gown. Then she fell asleep.

= Doctors Office=

Teilani was sitting in her office, staring at the great number of reports, which had needed to complete and decided to do this. Teilani was weary, and struggled to keep her eyes open as she finished her work. She typed lazily with one hand, supporting her head with her other. She closed her eyes for a moment, and rubbed her forehead, trying to soothe the headache that had been building. It didn't work.

Teilani quickly signed off on a report, deciding that her work was done for the day. She yawned as she stared to the next report on her console. She leaned back in her chair and stretched, trying to keep herself from the bliss that was sleep. Maybe just a little nap thought Teilani to herself. "Computer, dim the lights by 2/3," Slowly Teilani placed her head on her arms resting on the desk. She closed her eyes, feeling herself relax, consciousness slowly drifting away from her

It looked like only it had been only 5 minutes when she suddenly opened her eyes, only to find herself looking in the yellow eyes of a little tabby and white cat.

Its whiskers tickled her face. "Hello Sweetie, Teilani said softly, where do you come from"?

The cat started purring and rubbed its head against her chin. Teilani smiled as she stroke the cat under its belly. "What are you doin'up so late Sweetie, you want some milk?"

The cat looked at her with its big yellow eyes and meowed softly. Teilani was a sucker as it concerned little fury animals. She stood up and walked to the replicator.

Computer: "a saucer of milk and a mug of coffee, Jamaican blend, double strong, double sweet".

She placed the saucer in front of the cat, who gladly took a sip of it. Teilani sipped her coffee, come to think of it that was the only thing she had drank all day.

"Well Teilani said, lets just see to whom you belong too. Computer are there any animals onboard the Zion"?

Affirmative, the computer responded

"Please display owner of a tabby and white cat" Teilani asked.

The computer displayed the name of Captain Hunter as well as the name and the description of the little cat.

Computer: "What is the location of Captain Hunter"? Teilani asked.

"Captain Hunter is in his quarters", the reply came

"Well Chester, I think I will take you home now. O.k.", Teilani said. The cat looked at her and started purring again as Teilani picked him up

Carrying the cat in her arms Teilani headed for the Captains quarters. The hallways looked deserted but every once in a while she noticed the yellow colors of the security personnel on duty.

As she came the door, Teilani pressed the door chime.

Hunter got up from his nap and put on his robe, and opened the door.

"Sorry for the late disturbance Captain, but I think this little rascal is yours, as she held up the little cat. Apparently he was in need of some medical care, she said smiling, I found him in sickbay".

"Sick bay?" said Hunter with a chuckle as he took cat. He held the cat up, "You know better!" he said briskly rubbing the back of the cat's neck, "Thank-you doctor" said Hunter, "Care to come in, you look like you could use a break," he said with a smile.

"Thank you sir, Teilani said as she stepped into Hunters place.

Hunter set the cat down, and went over to the replicator, "can I get you anything?"

"Coffee please Jamaican blend double strong, double sweet".

Hunter shook his head with a smile, "It's 3 AM Doctor," turning to the replicator, "Jamaican blend, decaf, double sweet."

"You look tired doctor, how are things going down there?" he said with a grave voice of concern.

Teilani rubbed her eyes as she sat down on one of the chairs, "Well Sir, I admit I am exhausted, it has been a rough day, but I have a good team, and everything is now under control."

"Good" said Hunter with a nod of approval. "You are doing a fine job. You need to take care of yourself too, I'm not doctor, but a little sleep couldn't hurt,” said Hunter handing the doctor her de-fanged coffee.

Teilani accepted the mug and took a drink from it. She squinted her eyes; she noticed that the Captain had given her de-fanged coffee. Teilani hated this but decided to drink it. "Thanks Captain, good coffee, de-fanged right?

"Yes, decaf, you need some sleep, captain's orders" he said with a grin.

Teilani yawned again; drinking de-fanged coffee was not doing her any good. She realized that she had to get back to sickbay and finish of the remainder of the reports.

Teilani looked at the couch in the corner of Hunters room. Man that couch looked so attractive.

Hunter got up and put his cup in the replicator receptacle and turned around and found Dr. Dane slumped over on his couch. He shook his head and smiled. He lifted her legs up onto the couch and covered her with a blanket. With a little yawn he went back to bed himself.

=Riaan's Quarter's=

After a reasonable good sleep Riaan woke up somewhat refreshed. She headed off to have a quick sonic shower before beginning her day she wanted to check in with those from the Eagle and see how they were adjusting. After 20 minutes Riaan got out of the shower and got dressed. She exited and headed to her main living area and went to the replicator for a coffee with toast.

Riaan: "Computer coffee extra strong with toast semi dark with bumble berry jam."

Riaan picked up her cup and plate and headed over to her computer and placed her cup and plate on the table to the side.

Riaan: "Computer any new messages?"

Computer: "You have three new messages."

Riaan read each message but there was only one urgent message from Ensign Zoie.

Riaan: "Computer, begin report."

At the present we don't have an exact count of how many children there are that have lost their parents. At the present we have a head count of 15 children, but there were several families and whether they had any children they took under their care is unclear as of yet.

Things were extremely chaotic unfortunately and I have done my best under the circumstances besides the other Operations Officer last night. Hopefully after they have received a good nights rest and have had a chance to settle into their temporary quarters we can see how many children there actually is that have lost their parents.

I will try to get an exact account before I report to duty at 1600 and before we reach Qul Tuq Station. I have plans of checking up on those from the Eagle and see if they need any assistance of any kind.

In regards to Ensign Dane when she saw two that were part of the landing party on the Eagle she had suddenly froze like in a comatose state and appeared as if she saw a ghost or something. The EMH put some smelling salt under her nose and she came through and that was when she mentioned that two who were with the civilians from the Eagle weren't part of that group, but from the Kitty Hawk. She went completely white. I asked her if she was sure and she replied twice 100% certain that they were. I highly suggest that she seek your help but remain on active duty and hopefully this will help keep her mind off of them. Both have been treated then escorted to the brig awaiting interrogation. I suggest that Ensign Favor also tend to those two in the brig if they require any further medical assistance and that Ensign Dane be not allowed to see those two in case she passes out or freezes again.

Riaan: "Computer, end report and save as Eagle – Children who lost their parents."

Computer: "Report saved."

Riaan: "Computer send report to Ensign Zoie.

Computer: "Report sent to Ensign Zoie."

After eating and going through the daily log for the events of the day in Operations and during the night and replying to Ensign Zoie's memo Riaan closed down the computer and headed over to the replicator and placed her plate and cup into the replicator. Riaan exited her quarters and headed off to deck six to check in with those from the Eagle.

Counselor's office

Zoei settled into her office chair, tucking her right foot beneath her as she leaned closer to her desk.

"New reports," Zoei requested. The early morning had not yet worked its way out of her voice. To her ears, it sounded very young, more school age than grown woman. She cleared her throat and requested, "New reports", again. Much better, definitely more her usual self.

The first report displayed on her console. It appeared there had been several observations of child refugees having adjustment issues. The initial head count of those on board would need to be verified and a group gathering set up. Once the initial session was handled, it would be easier to sort out who would need individual counseling and who would do best in a small group setting.

"Computer, add to "To Do" list: Request log of child refugees on board."

Zoei reached for her glass of tea as the next report scrolled into view. As she quickly scanned the words, eyes darting rapidly left to right as she read, she felt a cold, hard knot forming in her stomach. Riaan had noted a concern with Ensign Dane. Past experience with the taciturn officer led her to believe if Riaan was concerned enough to make mention of Dane's behavior, there had to be a substantial episode that hadn't been revealed in the memo. Shaking her head, she added, "Computer, add to "To Do" list: Request meeting or clarification memo from Riaan regarding her concerns about Ensign Dane"

Zoei scanned the remainder of the reports. Nothing else of any great importance was contained in them. A quick review of her list, showed the children and the Ensign Dane situation appeared to be the top two concerns to be dealt with today.

"Computer, begin memo to Ensign Riaan:

Ensign Riaan, I have received your memo of 58204.14. I will be organizing some group therapy and individual sessions with the refugee children. Would it be possible to obtain a listing of all the children taken on board as refugees? If it is, I would greatly appreciate your assistance in compiling the list. Also, if you could elaborate as to the concern you mentioned with Doctor Dane, that would also be appreciated. If you prefer to address the situation regarding Ensign Dane in person, please let me know and we can arrange a time to meet. I appreciate your willingness to bring this to my attention. Counselor Zoei

"Computer, end memo, send to Ensign Riaan."

Zoei pinched the bridge of her nose between her thumb and forefinger. Squeezing her eyes tightly shut, she gave her head a minute shake. Opening her eyes widely and then allowing them to adjust to their normal state, Zoei pondered the concern with Ensign Dane. At the time she had released her to active duty, following her attack on the Kittyhawk, she had wondered if it had been too soon. Clinically, Ensign Dane had presented as someone in complete control of her faculties and with an inordinate ability to withstand external pressures. An error in releasing her too soon could be damaging to the entire crew. Reviewing her file, Zoei decided to wait to hear Riaan's report, but this time, she would not hesitate to restrict the doctor's shipboard duties.

=Deck 6=

Before Riaan's shift started at 1600 she decided to head off to deck six to see how the civilians were settling in.

Riaan wasn't sure how the civilians would think with her checking up on them and wondered if they felt that she was being intrusive or not but she just wanted to make sure everything was fine.

Her main concern were the children especially those that lost their parents.

Riaan thought back to the days when she was a mercenary and wondered how many children had no parents because of her but brushed this off to the back of her mind she had other responsibilities to tend to.

The first quarters Riaan dropped by a young voice replied enter as she pressed the chime.

Riaan entered the quarters and starting chatting to the family and asked if there was anything they needed.

James replied no thank we are fine you have done more then enough.

Riaan noticed a little girl sitting in the corner rocking back and forth in a fetal position. She was hardly visible sitting in the shadows. She sat right in the corner between two walls. The sofa almost hid the little girl in the corner. She had beautiful long blonde hair a little scruffy but under the circumstances it was understandable it hasn't been smooth sailing recently.

Riaan asked James if she could use the replicator for a minute and he replied go ahead. Riaan walked over to the replicator and ordered the replicator to make a doll, one in a soft yellow pretty dress, with beads down the front, with blond hair tied in a pretty blue ribbon, with blue eyes and white shoes. A few minutes later the doll was done.

Riaan walked over to the little girl and squatted down and handed her the doll.

She never looked up as Riaan handed her the doll. Hello my name is Riaan as she spoke softly to the little girl. What is your name, asked Riaan

The little girl never said a word.

The little girl appeared to be about 7 or 8 years of age but Riaan wasn't sure. No one knew the little girls name seeming she never responded to anyone since coming onboard and no one thought of asking seeming she was with these couples when they came onboard and automatically assumed the little girl belonged to them.

How long has she been like this James, asked Riaan.

Ever since we took her under our care, she lost both her parents and we were nearby when her parents were killed. They died instantly and never felt a thing I am pretty sure of that. They were caught in crossfire. She was holding her parents hand and we had a hard time getting her to let go. We felt badly about the effects and never thought anything of it and took her under our wings to care for. We don't know if she has any surviving relatives and we believe she is an only child there were no other children with them just her.

My wife shielded our two children so they couldn't see a thing.

After we came onboard and shown to these quarters we tried to clean her up the best we could. Unfortunately we never knew her parents personally. She hasn't eaten anything since coming onboard she just sits there rocking back and forth in a fetal position.

Our two other children have tried playing with her and getting her involved in games and what not and they to have had no success

I have tried everything and my wife Jane has also, we can't reach her it she is so lost and in a comatose state nothing seems to fizz on her.

She won't even eat we have tried and tried including leaving the dish there but she refuses to eat and she just sits there and rocks back and forth and fall asleep in the corner.

Riaan knew that something needed to be done and decided to page Ensign Zoie.

Riaan: "Computer, locate Ensign Zoie."

Computer: "Ensign Zoei is in her office."

This is Ensign Riaan to Ensign Zoie we have an emergency situation Deck 6 in one of the Family Quarters #4 with a little girl your assistance would be appreciated here.

Ensign Zoei to Ensign Riaan. I am on my way.

Zoei grabbed her case as she quickly strode through her office. She slapped it down on her desk, rapidly released the clasp, and ran her chilled fingers over the contents, reviewing the inventory. There were small toys, figures of people, blocks, drawing paper and colored pencils inside. Her long stride ate up the office floor between her desk and the recessed area where she stored small blankets. Grabbing a lavender fleece throw, covered in butterflies, she turned back to her desk. Clutching the case firmly in her left hand, fleece throw laying lightly over her shoulder, Zoei left her office for the turbo lift.

Exiting the turbo lift, confident strides carried Zoei to Family Quarters #4. Pausing at the door to identify herself, she hitched the case in her hand. It was heavy enough to cause a slight pulling in her shoulder. The door chimed and slid open.

Sorry to bother you Ensign Zoie but we have a little girl who hasn't eaten a thing since coming onboard she has lost both her parents and James and Jane besides their two children have tried everything.

She is over their in the corner rocking back and forth in a fetal position I was hoping you might be able to reach the little girl. She hasn't moved from that corner apparently and she falls asleep there. I replicated a doll hoping to draw attention but that hasn't worked either she never said a word nor looked up but just took the doll and hasn't said anything maybe you will have better luck then myself and this kind family that has taken her under their care. Unfortunately noone knows neither the little girls name nor her parents other then they were killed.

According to James both her parents died instantly and they never knew them personally. They felt bad about what had happened and without thinking about it they took her under their care. She was holding her parent's hand and James had a hard time getting the little girl to let go of her parents.

"Ensign, it is no bother at all. I appreciate you calling me. Anytime you need me for anything, don't hesitate to call for me," Zoei smiled slightly at the officer in front of her.

Well if you will please excuse me I have to attend to other business and see how our other guests are. If you need anything just page me. I will check back in later to see if you had any luck who knows she may open up to you, but it appears also she may not. She has been traumatized very deeply seeing the death of her parents. Well good luck.

"Have a good day, Ensign."

Riaan discreetly exited the quarters and proceeded on.

Looking around the room, she saw the small child curled in the corner. With a reassuring smile to the adults watching her so closely, she turned to the girl. Small, cautious strides covered the distance of the room slowly. Her aim was to approach the child as non-threateningly as possible. A short distance from the child, within arm's reach, but not touching, Zoei settled on the floor. Pulling her case to her, she slowly released the clasps on it. The sharp sound echoed throughout the quarters and the child flinched. Zoei noted it was a good sign the child was at least reactive to her environment. What wasn't such a good sign was the feeling Zoei was picking up of nothing-ness emanating from the child. There was no joy, no despair, no anything.

Opening the case, she pulled out two small dolls. One was a little boy and one was a little girl. Holding the dolls so they faced each other, Zoei said, in a high pitched small girl voice, "Hi there, my name is Patia." "Hi, Patia. My name is Lucio," replied a lower, young male voice. The two characters carried on a small conversation with each other, talking about likes and dislikes. As they appeared to become more comfortable with each other, their conversation turned to some of their fears. The little boy talked of being afraid of losing his family, and of being all alone with strangers. As they talked, Zoei sensed the little girl opening up. Aching glimpses of the pain the little girl was enduring began to show through. Daring a glance at the child, Zoei could see her eyes were now open. She was watching the interplay between the two tiny dolls. As the conversation turned to the feelings of aloneness and abandonment, the little girl sat up slowly. She began inching her way closer to the dolls. In her little girl voice, Zoei said to the little boy doll, "It will be ok, you will see." "It will not be ok!" the little girl cried. "You will be alone forever. You will never have your mommy and daddy back!" The same girl collapsed on the floor, folding into herself, sobbing piteously. Zoei scooted across the floor to her, laying her hand on her back softly, then rubbing gentle, calming circles along the girl's spine. The girl arched her back and Zoei removed her hand. Sitting up, the girl looked for the woman who had been rubbing her back, then launched herself into Zoei's arms. Her body wracked with sobs, tears streaming down her face, the child rocked herself against the counselor. For long moments, it was just the two of them in the universe as the child began to cope with the loss of her family.

== runabout Euphrates==

Sam woke up her eyes shot open. Her hands gnawed the edges of the thin mattress, it took her a second to realize were she was. There was something heavy on her chest, it took her a while realizing what it was. It was Charles arm, still holding her, making her feel save in his embrace. Sam smiled as she looked at Charles sleeping face. She still smiled as she put his arm beside him, .Sam. he mumbled, .Sssshh I am here, she whispered softly touching his face. Sam blushed as she remembered the way they had made love.

Slowly she got up, her back stiff from sleeping in one posture, perspiration rolled down between her breasts, as though someone had dumped a beaker of glycerine over her shoulders. She reached down to get her jumper from the floor and walked over to the replicator.

"Computer, a cool glass of water, 5 degrees" she ordered.

As she slowly took some sips she noticed in the corner of her eye a blinking light. As she checked the helm settings it showed that they were an hour away from reaching Pentara V.

Sam back to Charles. .Charles wake up, WAKE UP! Roughly Sam shook Charles shoulders

"What's Up... Honey", he said half sleep.

"We have about an hour before we reach the planet", she said, "now what can we do in this hour", she said smiling. "I know what", she reached down and kissed Charles. His hands glided around her waist as Sam place her hand on his hart. "No secrets, no regrets", Sam whispered.

All that Charles sensed was honest, purity and love emanating from this girl in his arms. He had never experienced this usually everybody tried to hide their feelings.

Sam checked the sensor settings and said: "Charles, scanners show a typical Class M planet, breathable atmosphere but very polluted, population...2 thousand. There is a outpost located at N135, W090. Scanners show no starship activity surrounding the planet...outpost defensive systems nonexistent.

"Ok...Hail the planet I'll be there in a second", Charles stood up and put some clothes on and went to the bridge just to arrive there on time as Sam was hailing the planet.

"This is the Euphrates, calling Pentara V, requesting docking coordinates please respond" Sam repeated the message: "Euphrates for Pentara V, please respond!".

"Hailing frequencies are open but there is no answer honey bun ", Sam said to Charles. "I suppose that we should beam down again.?"

"Hold on honey...Let's head to the outpost I want a scan of that place before we beam ourselves down", said Charles gently...Sam's taste still in his mouth.

"Scans show no signs of and advaced defensive systems. But there are almost 2.000 Aliens Living There...I will get our gear together in the meantime, I presume we take the same with us as last time?", Sam asked.

"I concur... Here you have the padd with the inventory we took last time", said Charles with a smile

"Thanks", she responded. "I just remove the archeological equipment as we do not need this...Now lets just see what we got".

2 Advanced Tricorders 1 Med-kit 2 Phaser Rifles 2 Manual Phasers Emergency rations for 10 Days 2 Emergency beam up devices 2 Ultimate Resource Pills 2 Body shields 2 Water Filters Camping Gear

Sam read the padd and prepared to set all the inventory out and of course the outfit Charles, what about the outfit? .Any particular style in mind, Sam asked, while she stowed the equipment in a backpack.

"Well since we are farmers some high class farming gear would do", he said while he went to the replicator to get the clothes they need.

"I think that we could take another scan to the most populate area if I where a Ferengi I'll go where lot's of people are to barter with and lots of money to make...Legal or Illegal", said Charles.

Sam smiled, "I know that you.re a Betazoid but you would make a good Ferengi". Sam walked over to the console, "Scanning now".

"Hon... Scanners show small land based space port with several vessels located there. Still no sign of any advanced defensive or offensive systems", said Sam.

"Mmm, Interesting Let's move a little Closer", he said

Sam turned the runabout a little closer towards the area, which showed high density population. "this is as close as we can get without raising suspicion Charles", she said.

"Good, Now for the Names We are Samantha and Charles Jones from Veridian 3", Said Charles waiting for Sam to confirm

“Sam and Charles Jones it is”.

"Ok, Now let's hail the planet", stated Charles

“This is the Euprates for Pentara V. We have an message for Mr Ramok, please respond. Sam repeated the message again..

Charles looked at the console no response ... that was strange.

"Ok, Time to Beam ourselves down... Turn on the Body Shields", Said Charles. "Computer 2 to beam down to the planet"

The computer answered with a "Acknowledge...Waiting for confirmation"

Charles Answered with an simple "Energize!"

==Pentara V==

The transporter cycle completed and Charles and Sam found themselves in the Center of a small village. There were several people who exchanged odd glance at The strangers and then melted into the shadows. The air was foul and hard to breath. Looking around them they noticed there were several bars and taverns lining The street. Most of them were in very bad shape. Walking down the row of bars they stop in front of one with a sign that had read "Deep Desires", however it was severely scratched out and a new sign was tacked to the wall next to it called "Ramok's Angels"

Sam looked around, this was really an dreadful place, as she took a deep breath she nearly choked, the air was horrible.

"Ok, Honey Let's Get in and see if we can find a good place to stay", Said Charles while he saw a strange man approaching he asked with a southern Accent "Excuuse mee Mister... Where can a Man and his wife find a decent place to stay?"

A startled man looks Atwood in the eyes and says, "What does this place look like? A resort?" Pausing a few seconds he says there is an empty shack at the end of the alley over yonder, " he pointed to an alley. "Best your gonna find here."

Charles pulled out some of the emergency rations and tossed it to the guy with a "I think sir that this can make you help us a little, we're not looking for a resort but a decent place to stay", he said to the guy.

The man looked wide eyed at the rations and quickly tore into the packaging and hungrily ate the entire package right on the spot. Looking at the two strangers he figured there were con artists or something, however, his stomach was full for the first time in a week so he flashed them an evil grin and said, "Like I said before, there ain't much here in the way of hospitality. Down at the end of the alley like I said, there is a shack ain't no one using it now. Try there." He turned and walked off down the street.

"Charles, go easy on this, we do not have much and if we want to make a new living here you should not spend it so easily", Sam said outloud so that the guy could hear it.

"Yes Honey I know... The things out here are a little different from the ones back home", answered Charles.

True, so we need to barter as much as we can, maybe even find a job if we are in need of funds. Sam raised her hand, “wait before you say anything I am not going to dress up as a dabo girl and work in there”, pointing to the bar.

The wind shifted and something fell rattling to the ground. Readjusting the straps of her pack Sam set of in the direction the guy had shown them. “Are you coming love, she said to Charles.

"Of course Sweetie...", he said as he checked for the personal phaser he had hidden under his clothes.

It is obvious to see that these people have nothing, I mean that guy looked as if he had not eaten in weeks, Sam said to Charles, how in heavens name are we going to get the information”, we have not that much to barter with. Why are they staying in this godforsaken place?”

"Do not know yet hon", said Charles keeping his strong southern accent. They both walked to the alley and entered the shack. It was an old building and after they checked the perimeter for hidden microphones and stuff like that Charles told Sam, "Honey... this looks decent enough for me, we'll need to be prepared in case of an intent of robbery. I have the impression that these people are extremely poor and they could try to steal our properties".

"We'll need to get some kind of lock to secure the entrance".

Sam nodded as she put her gear on an old, weather torn bunk. This was a real dump, Sam thought, but it’ll just have to do. Sam squinted her eyes as she looked through the room, she spotted some loos floorboards.

“This might do for now, as she pointed out the spot to Charles. We can leave some of our excess gear in there”. “Cover it with this old cloth, Sam held up an old rag she had found on the floor”. “It will be save for now”.

As they were both trying to make the shack a bit more habitable Sam continued.

"Charles", she said "I have been thinking, It might be better to split up while we’re here if we want to get the necessary info. There must be other women here and you know ……………………. Women among women, well they talk. Also men are more talkative to another if no wife is present".

"It's a good point but since we are just the two of us in this lousy planet I'll not risk the team to be destroyed and I'll certainly won't want you dead", Answered Charles

"I can try to get a lock for this door. I know you do not have to worry", Sam said full of confidence, "I have my hands, my charm and this". Sam pulled out the fractal edged knife from the concealed pocket of her bag.

"Wow!!, I thought that those knid of knives were forbiden... But I guess that there are a lot of rules that doesn't apply to us", said Charles

"I know it is illegal, but it might just make our cover more believable, and if necessary I can trade it for something". Sam also took out one of the tricorders and 2 emergency rations and hide it in her tunic pockets.

"Ok, Lt Your request is granted but take care and don't forget to turn on your body shield and be sure you take your phaser along for the ride", said Charles solemnly

"I know, we can rendezvous outside the bar in about 4 hours". Sam smiled and headed for the door. "Charles...", she said softly as she tuned back to him. Charles looked up, Sam looked at him and thought “Be Careful”. Sam covered her hair and face as she walked back into the alley. Man, what would I give for a sonic shower she thought.

There weren’t many people on the streets which was surprising considering the sensor readings. Sam wandered the streets trying to memorize the various paths and alleyways, in case they needed a quick escape.

Meanwhile Charles started to prepare a backup plan and decided to go to the bar and see if he could get some of the local guys attention, he had always been a good pool player and decided to win some latinium and get some information too.

Sam exited an alley which overlooked some sort of market place, More people were present and Sam started to mingle and trying not to look too curious. At a certain moment she saw an elderly women being molested by 2 men. “He you, Sam shouted, leave her alone”, as Sam walked over to the old woman.

The two men looked at Sam and laughed. "Lookie here Rok, it is a young woman. We do not get many young women here." One of them men pulled out a really big knife and stood grinning with lust in his eyes.

"Yeah bud, we won’t need to steal firewood tonight now." He smirked and also pulled out a knife.

The old woman skilfully placed her hand in the distracted man's pocket and removed it's contents. She then ran off in the other direction.

Oh shit, Sam thought this is a bad idea, she knew that with her training she probably could take them but why risk it. Sam turned around and ran.

"After her Rok." The two men ran after her. Laughing and brandishing there weapons.

=Deck 6=

After leaving James and Ensign Zoei, Riaan proceeded on checking in with the other family members and checking to see if there were anymore orphaned children from the Eagle. Most of the families were rather pleasant while others weren't sure what to think of Riaan

=Meanwhile=

After finishing up the last of the reports Teilani decided to get something to eat in the lounge. Living on only coffee was not good. She stepped out in to the corridor, almost tripping over some children playing a game. "Hello, they said to her, do you want to play with us"? Teilani smiled, “maybe later okay, the children nodded.

Riaan had found 4 more children who were orphaned and had lost their parents but the families that took them under their care stated to Riaan that they were reasonably well adjusted and just required some love and understanding. Also with our children they have been very helpful as they played either big brother/sister.

Teilani walked on, her stomach started to grumble, she turned a corner passed one of the bulkheads when she heard a noise. It was a little boy crying. Teilani walked over to him, "hello, she said, why are you crying” .The boy looked up, we were playing hide and seek and now I cannot find my friends nor mum and daddy”.

He rubbed his eyes, and sniffed, “ can you take me home”. He placed his hand in Teilani's hand. "Of course Teilani said, lets just see if we can find your friends or your mum and dad”, ok.

Riaan was having a hard time as she saw the aftermath from the children that lost their parents. She thanked the families that had taken in the orphaned children until further arrangements could be made. Riaan couldn't believe the sacrifices the families had done for these children by taking them under their care. They were so nice these people and never deserved this. They were hard working, honest and very sincere and had not asked for that much in return, other then getting them safely away from the federation.

Teilani walked together with the boy, “what's your name”, she asked, “James Digrado”, he replied. "Are you working here”, he asked. Teilani looked down, “yes I am, she said,” I’m going to be a pilot when I grow up”, James said hopping along side her. SuddenlyJames pulled his hand from hers, “Mark, he yelled Mark”, another boy disappeared around the corner of deck 6. Teilani ran after them, trying not to loose them, finally she caught up with them. “Boys, she said, don't go wondering too far”. She recognized Mark as being the little boy from sick bay. “Mark, Teilani said, I believe your mummy told you not to go too far from your quarters, didn’t she”. He nodded, “hoi doc”.

“Come on you two, it is time to go home, both boys gave Teilani a hand and walked beside her, chattering loudly about what they seen and done.

As Teilani turned the corner to G45 she noticed Ensign Riaan exiting one of the family quarters.

Riaan almost walked over Ensign Dane. “Hello doctor is there a problem”?

“No, there is no problem I am just babysitting, getting these two rascals home”.

Both James and Mark giggled they were so full of mischief. "But how are you Ensign, are you holding up". Teilani asked a bit concerned.

“I am holding up not bad, but I can't believe how many children there are that have lost their parents. The trauma these children are going through at this age isn't right. I am wondering what will happen to these children when we reach Qul Tuq. All my years as a mercenary this is the first time up front that I have seen the devastation I have caused by following command and have left so many children, wives, husband and what not so alone. This is a tragedy. This makes no sense. These children should have both their parents and now they are so alone.

Teilani nodded, “I know what you mean, but do not forget children are much more resilient and at this age with the proper guidance and counseling they will pull through, but I agree with you war is never fair not on children nor on adults”.

“I am sorry I shouldn't keep you”. “How are you holding up since yesterday in sickbay with seeing two that were part of the landing party on the Kitty Hawk”? Riaan asked.

Not intentionally she answered a bit hard, “I'm doin fine”, she did not want to let Riaan know that she had shut off her feelings, tried not to let herself being effected by the pain and horror she noticed in peoples eyes, the pain she remembered so well.

“Well lets get these two home shall we. Do you know the boys name at all Teilani?

“Yes I do, Ensign Riaan meet James and Mark”. James started pulling her hand, "Are we going now, I'm hungry”. Teilani laughed at Riaan, well you heard them shall we go?

Riaan started walking and stopped at one of the quarters and pressed the chime.

Juliette replied, “enter”.

Both Teilani and Riaan entered with the two boys. “I am sorry to interrupt but your son has been having fun exploring this ship”.

Mark piped up, ”mom can I please have James over for lunch I promise I’ll be good”.

Juliette replied, “all right but first you must apologize to these two people who found you and never wonder away from these quarters unless occupied by your father or myself”..

Mark piped up “I promise”.

Juliette stated to Riaan and Teilani, “I hope these two haven’t bothered you”.

“Oh no they were fine”, replied Teilani and Riaan just nodded in agreement.

Mark turned to Teilani, “I am sorry for bothering you”, along with James they were almost synchronized.

Teilani sank to her knees, brushing her hand through Marks hair. “If you ever want to explore the ship again Mark, then ask the computer to call Ensign Riaan or myself o.k".

Mark nodded and looked at James and started to run to his room, calling for his newfound friend.

Juliette walked over to Riaan and Teilani, "Again, Doctor, Ensign, my apologies for my son” .

“It was no big deal honestly boys will be boys and love adventure”, replied Riaan.

James’s parents are in Family Quarters #33 Juliette, replied Riaan .

Juliette nodded, “I will make sure he will get there safely”, she said as she guided Riaan and Teilani to the door.

“Thank you for making sure that James gets home safely”, replied Riaan.

“No problem it will be a pleasure”, replied Juliette.

“Well I guess we better getting going, as Riaan looked over at Teilani, I still have other duties to attend to”, as Riaan smiled at Juliette for being so understanding with her son yet having a firm hand at the same time.

“Bye Ma'am”, Teilani said as she stepped into the corridor. “Well Riaan, I will not keep you any longer, if you require assistance let me know”. With her appetite gone, Teilani turned and headed back to sickbay, a cup of strong coffee would do her good…

“Not a problem”, replied Riaan.

Chester watched closely as the female called doctor picked him up and handed him to Captain, the human he lived with. Not two hours earlier he had decided to go and check out the neighborhood. He had wandered about the place, there seemed to be a great deal of activity. People were running and shouting and there was even some fighting. People never get along.

Chester continued on his journey. He managed to get into the magic box that went to a different places every time the doors opened. He got out on one place that was full of people. Chester came across two small humans, they were just kittens and he could tell they were very frightened. He crawled into their lap and began to purr loudly. The "people kittens" stroked his fur, which made Chester purr even more. He stayed with them until they fell fast asleep and then moved on.

Now, thanks to Doctor, his fun was done. She had taken his home and Captain had fed her and she fell asleep. Chester was very bothered. Captain did not feed him, he fed her and to make matters worse she was sleeping on *his* couch. Chester watched her all night long waiting for her to go away. Finally, he decided to take matter into his own hands.

Chester jumped onto the couch and licked her face. "Come on! Get up!", he though. He licked her again, "This! is my couch," he thought. More licking. "Get off of my couch." Lick Lick "Now would be nice." Lick. Lick.

Doctor woke up. She appeared confused but finally left. Chester kneaded the couch with his front claws, stretched out and went to sleep.

==Hunters quarters==

Teilani turned in the captains’ bed, pulling the blanket up to her chin, when she felt Hunter leaning over her, kissing her on the cheek.

A smile curled around Teilani’s lips as she slowly opened one eye, only to notice that it was not Hunter who kissed her but it was Chester liking her cheek, and that she was still laying on the couch in Hunters quarters.

“Oh. Chester, Teilani moaned, go away”. “Man, she mumbled as she got up, another dream shot to pieces. I should quite with drinking coffee”. For a moment she remained sitting down, rubbing her eyes, trying to fully wake up. Chester was rubbing his head against her elbow, seeking to get her attention.

Teilani looked at the purring cat and rubbed his neck, “I love you to sweetie, she said, but I have to go, get back to work”.

“Computer: What time is it”? She asked. “It is 10.25hr”, the response came.

“10.25 hrs Teilani said with a startled voice, Oh no I overslept.” She quickly got up, folded the blanket and placed this on the corner of the couch.

There was only one thing she needed to do. “Computer, record message for Captain Hunter”. Recording, the computer said “Captain, thanks for the decaf, the couch and for listing. Teilani”.

“Be nice Chester, Teilani said as she walked out the door and headed to her quarters.

== Teilani’s quarters==

Once in her quarters, Teilani peeled of her uniform and stepped into the shower. The hot rays made her muscles relax and the smell of lilac’s refreshed her senses. She quickly put on a clean uniform and brushed her hair and braided it, at least it would not get in her eyes. However next time they were on QulTuq she would have it cut off.

When she was finished she walked over to the replicator and ordered; “A mug of coffee, Jamaican blend double strong, double sweet”, and with the mug in her hand she walked out the door of to another day in Sickbay.

=USS Zion, Flight Control Deck=

Ensign Miller nodded at Lt Lane, "The Euphrates is in com-link range now sir." Steve Lane nodded and stepped to the observation window looking out over the aft section of the ship.

Shuttle USS Euphrates, This is flight control, come in

this is the Euphrates, Sam responded, what took you so long

"Sorry to keep you so long, we're trying not to give away our location." Said Lt. Lane. "You are clear for landing in shuttle bay one."

Affirmative, can you please have a medical team standby, Lt Atwood has been injured".

"Understood, we'll have medics standing by."

We are coming in, Euphrates out

Lt Lane walked over the flight control status and monitored the shuttle's approach as he tapped his com badge again, Sickbay, we need a team of medics in shuttle bay one right away."

Understood, Alpha team is on its way, Dane out

Lt Lane used the shuttle bay tractor beams to assist the shuttle's landing. The nose of the shuttle emerged through the shuttle bays force field and gently set down on the landing pad. He watched from the perch above as a team of flight deck technicians paraded across the pad apron to the craft. He tapped his combadge and signaled Riaan in Ops that the Euphrates had safely returned, but there were injuries."

The shuttle craft door hissed as it depressurized and opened. Medics rushed in and began scanning Atwood. Two others went up to check on Sam. "You're going to be ok, they said to her re-assuredly."

Quickly the medics whisked them away and brought them to sickbay.

=Sickbay=

Teilani was just drinking her 3rd cup of coffee when de medics came back with Ltjg Samanta Carter and Lt Charles Atwood.

The medics gently put Lt Atwood on one of the bio beds, as Ally took care of Samantha.

One of the medics handed Teilani the scanner showing the head trauma. Teilani took one of the neuro stimulators and placed it on Charles head. The readings gave her some concern. It did not look good, irregular brain waves, slow heart rate, but he was not going to die on her shift, not today anyway.

PSU, now!" Teilani shouted, sending two of her nurses flying to get the equipment. "Inaprovaline?" Teilani said, her snapping to the side as she called out, "Where the hell is my PSU?! One of the nurses handed Teilani a hypospray.

She administered the medicine and began counting to ten. "Goddammit, eight…come on, nine--got it!" Teilani announced, as the Lt Atwoods pulse stabilized."PSU!" cried out two voices as the nurses stumbled into the room. Teilani shook her head, a humorless smile on her face, "Gee, thanks."

Ally who had finished with Samantha, handed her a hypo. "Dexalin." She administered the medicine. "This is a non-transfer, everyone. He stays in this bed until he's more stable, understood?" A chorus of compliance sounded and Teilani gave a sharp nod. The overhead console showed Charles's vital sign going up. A nurse handed Teilani a hypospray, "Formazine."

Teilani shook her head. "No, he needs to rest for a bit." Ally fed her another hypospray. "Kayolane?" No, "It slows his heart rate. Something we don't need right now. Let's just let him rest. In the meantime, I want a cerebral-cortical, microcellular, Hyperencephalogram and non-stop monitoring of his condition. Feed all the results directly to my office console." Teilani paused. Everyone stared at her. She blinked. "Well? Get to work!

Sitting down behind her desk, she keyed on her console and brought up the information from the scans being performed on Lt Atwood.

Meanwhile Sam was lying on the other biobed, her gaze was constantly on Charles. Luckily her fever began to subside and the gush in her arm was nearly gone thanks to the wonders of the dermaregenarator. She desperately wanted to sit beside him but she was so tired, Ally had given her a small dose of sedation and Sam began to feel the effect of it, slowly her eyes closed and she fell asleep.

= 1 hr later=

Finally,. Charles slowly began to respond to the stimulators and medicine which were administered to him, causing the monitors to start bleeping.

"Dr Dane, Ally called, he is waking up Ma'am". Teilani rushed out of her office over her patient and noticed that the REM movement of Charles's eyes was increasing. Ally was right he was waking up.

Charles woke to find two smiling women standing over him, Dr Dane and the head nurse Ally.

"What happened", he started, tried to climb off the diagnostic bed, but Teilani genially force him to remain sitting, running her medical scanner over his body. "Let me tell you, Lt. You gave me and the rest a terrible start, in fact you almost died". Charles moved his arms and flexed his neck muscles. "How long have I been..."

"What I can understand Lt Atwood", Teilani said quite a long time. "Thanks for saving my life", Charles responded. "I did not save it Lt", Teilani said, "Lt Jg. Carter did".

Charles looked around he couldn't find her and he didn't saw her, "Where is she I need to see her"

Teilani looked closely at Charles before she responded," she is alright, she is over there, pointing to the next bio bed".

"Sam", Charles said "Where are you?"

Sam woke a little drowsy, "I'm here Charles". She slided of the bio bed and slowly walked over., "Whao Ms Carter, Teilani said, take it easy" as she helped Sam getting near to Charles.

Charles looked at his side and saw Sam looking at him, he was relieved to see her next to him. He looked at her and said "Nice to see you Lt Thanks for everything"

"Your welcome Sir" she said softly, Sam realized that now that they were back on the Zion their relationship had to be professional, "I'm glad to see that you are o.k".

Charles saw her look immediately and decided to heat up the things a little by using his betazoid gifts to say "Nothing has changed Imzadi, Just need to keep up with the appearances for a while"

Sam smiled and nodded.

Teilani looked at the two, there was something going on between the two but she could not put her finger to it. Anyway she needed to let Captain Hunter and Commander Wright know that they were ok.

"Dane to Captain Hunter, Just to let you know that Lt Atwood has regained consciousness both he and Ltjg Carter are going to be fine. Dane out"

There seemed to be no ending to the stack of reports Teilani had to write or approve, not only keeping their patients medical history up to date but also she needed to send a report to the Captain on the two individuals still occupying her sickbay.

"Computer: log the following report":

CONFIDENTIAL

CMO's Report : Dr Dane's Dogs of War

Submitted to: Captain Ian Hunter

Upon first examination of the last group of the USS Eagle which were rescued by the Zion in appeared that all those beamed on board were normal civilians, their injuries consisted mainly of phaserburns and broken bones. Few patients still remain in sickbay but I am confident that they will be released in the next few days.

Unfortunately during a closer medical examination of two individuals I recognised them as having been on board of the USS Kittyhawk. They have been denying of ever having been there. But I am 100 percent sure that they were part of it. Both individuals were part of the boarding party and there for guilty to the atrocities committed during said attack. If need be I will testify to this before a court of justice.

I have take the liberty to take a DNA sample and run this through our database in order to determine their real identity, unfortunately no records seem to be available. Their current names are unknown to any records we have on file, and therefore might be false. I have no idea how they ended up on the Eagle as they refuse to give a explanation.

Their injuries are minor and I have asked security to escort them to their quarters and have them confined there due to the suspicious circumstances surrounding them.

[Further Information available on request]

Teilani Dane CMO USS Zion

"Computer save report and sent a copy to Captain Ian Hunter".

"Acknowledge, report saved and sent, the reply came back".

She leant back in her chair looking around in her empty office, suddenly struck by the lack of any thing personal or at least something colourful, when suddenly she was interrupted by a loud voices coming from one of the bio beds.

It appeared that one of her patients was having an argument with his wife and some of the other visitors. Teilani could not hear what the discussion was but she was getting annoyed by it. This was nor the place nor the time for bickering.

Teilani a doctor first and a Maqui Officer second and she wasn't used to being the voice of reason in the crowd, that's why she wasn't a CMO for heaven's sake, she glanced around the crowded, noisy Sickbay. Not only was she the voice of reason but she was also the only medical doctor on her feet and after this she was planning to have a complete nervous breakdown that was for sure.

She had tried to be nice and had allowed her patients to receive visitors but this was getting absurd, she tried get these people out of here quietly but apparently quietly wasn't going to work today.

There were patients that needed her and she was tired of stepping over people to get there who weren't injured so she put his fingers in her mouth and whistled long and hard until everyone was quiet and looking at her, at least those that were conscious and she raised his voice to be heard and emphasize, "OK I HAVE TRIED TO BE NICE HERE BUT THE FACT IS THAT MOST OF YOU PEOPLE DON'T HAVE ANY REASON FOR BEING HERE. IF YOU AREN'T BLEEDING OR BROKEN GET YOUR ASS OUT OF MY SICKBAY" she said and hollered the last part pausing only long enough to clear her throat, "I DON'T CARE WHAT YOUR RANK OR POSITION IS BUT THE UNINJURED ARE INTERFERRING WITH MY TREATING THOSE THAT NEED IT, SO IF YOU CAN WALK AND AREN'T HURT GET OUT. THANK YOU AND HAVE A PLEASANT DAY" she said sarcastically, placing her hands on her hips and eyes shooting like lightning.

The day had started so good, but this little incident had spoiled her mood. Teilani walked over to the replicator, "Hot coffee, Jamaican blend, double strong, double sweet.

Sam was glad when dr dane said that she and Charles were free to go to her quarters. They were both fine now but they had to take it easy for a few days.

The silence between them was almost palpatable, Sam did not know what to think of it. Charles had told her to keep up appearances but this was hard for her. She never had to pretend.

Charles sensed Sam's feelings and decided to put an end to the situation. "Sam I'm going with you to your quarters, if that's ok for you", he said waiting for her answer.

"Are you sure you want to do this, Charles, I mean Melissa must also be worried sick about you, shouldn't you let her know you're alright". To be honest Sam was a bit scared about the possible confrontation between her and the other woman.

"Do not worry I'll take care of Melissa, when the moment comes", said Charles trying to support her.

"I know, Sam replied, its just that", I don't want to be known as the other woman", Sam was nervous, she had never taken a man to her quarters, come to think of it she had not even cleaned when she went away.

"Sam, don't worry, al will turn out o.k.", just give it some time, Charles said.

Both Sam and Charles walked towards an turbolift. "Deck 11, Sam said, upon entering the lift. I must warn you Charles, my quarters are small", she said with a little chuckle.

"I don't think we'll see a lot of it", said Charles with a smile in his face. He simply loved the fact that he could make her blush.

Sam blushed, although they had spent days together she still had to get used to the fact that someone paid attention to her. "Charles you know what the doctor has said, you have to take it easy for the next couple of days". Sam tiptoed and kissed Charles on the cheek. "I love you she said. "you have no idea how much Charles". Remember, no secrets and no regrets".

"Of course Honey, and remember I'm here with you and you only", said Charles while he returned the kiss, this time on her mouth

Luckily nobody else entered the turbo lift otherwise they would been surprised. Finally they reached deck 11, Sam opened the door to her quarters, "well this is it, I told you it is small". "Make yourself comfortable". Sam walked over to the replicator, "I am so hungry how about you"?

"Yes, starving how about a stake and some rice please?", answered Charles while he took off his shirt. "Coming right up, Sam said while ordering it from the replicator, together with a steamed chickenbreast and sweetpies for her self, "If you want to take a shower go ahead, towels are in the drawer"

"Ok, I will if you shower with me, it saves ships energy", said Charles smiling

"Well that is a very tempting offer you make me", Sam said with a glimmer in her eyes, "but unfortunately I am too hungry, so you have to wait". As Charles turned towards the table Sam noticed his bruised back. "My god Charles your back its black and blue it must hurt incredible".

"Well, I'm using a Betazoid technique to repress the pain so it's ok", said Charles, although his face said otherwise.

"Hm I see, Sam said with her mouth full, you should learn me this someday". "Now come and eat". Both Sam and Charles ate in silence, thinking about what had happened, about the information they had gathered.

Sam leaned back in her chair, feeling full and relaxed. Slowly she stood up, walking to her sleeping area, she put her head around the corner and said, "Last one in the shower is a klingon targ"! Charles started to run and almost beat Sam, when they arrive the shower they took their clothes off and entered.

"Mmm, this is better", he said hugging Sam under the psionic shower.

After their steamy shower, Sam led Charles to her sleeping area, and they both laid down, covered themselves with an old indian blanket. Charles wrapped his arms around her and placed his head on her chest, feeling Sam's heartbeat and breathing. Sam stroke Charles's hair, she felt save and protected. Lots had happened but nothing could beat this day. Slowly both she and Charles fell asleep. Tomorrow seemed far away.

They where discussing the results of the battle. “We lost over 13 phaser compression rifles and no less than 20 standards 2 phasers.” The quartermaster said. “How come?” Ryan asked. “Well apparently a lot where still lying around on the eagle fore it exploded. “Sir In the defense of my Squad.” Anna Lorance the CO of delta squad, the squad that was the backbone of the boarding party. “what mister Quarton Forgets to add is that more than 70 precent of those weapons where lost during the taking of engineering.” “A massacre that was caused by bad judgment and wanna be heroism of Lt. Dullard.” Quince interrupted her with a look in his eyes that would scare of any klingon. “THAT MATTER IS STILL UNDER INVESTIGATION! AND UNTIL THEN…!!!!” “Calm down you two!” Ryan said with a voice with more power than the hit of a torpedo. “I will not tolerate this behavior, you two are both…” “Sorry sir but until its proven that Dullard made a mistake His death should be respected.” “My speaking should also be respected miss Lorance.” Ryan said dry. “Sorry sir.” She said in a uninterested voice. “I hope you are Lt, I hope you are.” Ryan was angry. “Mister Quarton is there a reason we can’t re-supply our weapons at Qul Tuq?” “No sir.” Quarton answered. “Very well, our weapons are not our main concern. Mister Cardenas how many casualties did we have in total?” “26 sir.” “hmm, I will make additional training schedules for the teams, 26 is far to high. If there is nothing else?” “No sir” everyone responded. “Good, Mister Quarton I herby order you to speak with respect of our dead. Dismissed.”

18:30

Ryan Walked around the barracks for a light inspection. He entered Delta squad barracks. “Officer on deck!” The Guard shouted through the long corridor with the beds in the wall. All Marines climbed out of there beds or walked to them and straightened there back. Ryan walked by them and looked at some of them and talked to them. Then he came to bunk 160. “Alice Knight.” He Said “Sir yes Sir!” “At ease” He turned to the all marines “Ladies and gentlemen, thank you, as you where!” He turned back to Alice. “I got a message from the doctor saying you are restricted to light duty.”

“Yes sir that’s true.” She looked as if she had difficulty standing. “Sit down Alice” “Thank you major.” Ryan smiled. “I have some unpleasant news for you. “Your Function leader Second Lieutenant Altena, has died in the engineering massacre. I know you two where good friends.” He sad down next to her. her eyes where dead. “But she did record a message to me saying that if anything where to happen to her she was recommending you to be her replacement. So you are herby promoted to the rank of Sergeant Major of the Maquis, and named head of function in the Sniper department. You will be responsible for overseeing the training and the performance of your everyone with the same main group function as you. Understood?” “Yes sir.” “You will begin after the doctor clears you from light duty.” He stood up and gave her her rank pip. “Congratulations, Sergeant.” He nodded and walked away. He heard her whisper a thank you.

"That is correct Sir, she replied with an icy voice, pointing to bio bed one.

"Are you sure?"

"As surely as I see you standing here Sir", Teilani responded sarcastically.

"What is their status?"

"They are injured, but they are going to be fine". Teilani managed to keep her face straight, not revealing any emotion.

Hunter walked towards bio bed one. The occupant of the bed sat up when he saw the captain approach. "Sir! Sir, please help me. That Doctor is crazy, she thinks we are soldiers."

Hunter crossed his arms and replied, "are you?"

"No, no Sir! we're just seeking asylum." Hunter studied the man as he continued to plead his case. Hunter shifted his weight and interrupted the man, "look, if you are innocent, I'm sorry to inconvenience you, on the other hand, I'm sure you understand our cautiousness."

"Cautious?" the man began to complain as Hunter turned and walked away, "if you were cautious you wouldn't have that doctor..." his voice trailed off as Hunter stepped back into Dr. Dane's office.

"Very well, as soon as they are better.." said Hunter pointing over his shoulder with his thumb, have security confine them to quarters. I'll want a full report from you on this matter."

Hunter looked around, "How's Lieutenant Atwood?"

"It was a bit touch and go, but he's going to be fine, he been dismissed to his quarters a few hours ago". "I told him that you might call on him and Ltjg Carter for the debriefing".

"Very good Doctor," said Hunter, "I think that is where I'm going next then."

Hunter looked around and imagined the mayhem here less than 18 hours ago. Sickbay was busy but far from chaos. Hunter turned to Dr. Dane, "excellent job Doctor.. excellent job."

=USS Zion - Security Office

Melissa had a very long day. She was tired, in need of a shower and missed Charles very much. Her shift was almost done when another security officer approached her. "Hi Melissa. I bet you are happy."

Melissa frowned, "I am sure tired and I miss Charles."

"Silly woman. He is back. I hear if from Ensign Davies. They rushed them up to sick bay. You didn't know?" said the security officer.

Melissa did not even respond she ran from the room and went right to sickbay stopping in the reception area she asked a nurse about Charles. "He has been released to his quarters." said the nurse.

Melissa was relieved that Charles was ok. She thanked the nurse and returned to her quarters. She was excited to finally be with Charles again. "Charles, " she called.

Hearing no response she called again, "Honey."

It was apparent to her that Charles was not there. "Computer, what is the location of Charles Atwood."

"Charles Atwood is in the quarters of Sam Carter."

"This is very odd," thought Melissa. Fear started to rise inside her as she made her way to deck 11. She stood out side Sam's quarters. She rank the door chime and waited. She had a very bad feeling about this. After a few minutes she rang it again. Still no one came to the door. She could not take this anymore.

"Computer, open door, security emergency override authorization Jarvis Beta22kappa", she said.

The door opened and Melissa enters Sam's quarters. It did not take her long to find them. Her beloved Charles naked in bed with another woman. The two of them were sleeping soundly. Melissa was filled with a mixture of anger and sadness. She stood there and looked at them trying to decide what to do next.

Melissa drew her phaser. Her trembling hands turned it up to the maximum setting. She pointed the phaser at Charles. Her hands continued to tremble as she considered what she was about to do. The part of her that was a trained security officer was shrieking in her head "STOP! YOU CANNOT DO THIS." The scorned lover, however, wanted nothing more than to kill them both. This part of her told her that nothing mattered anymore except revenge. "No, she thought, he is not worth it," she decided letting her phaser fall to her side.

Melissa quietly left Sam's quarters and sealed the door. Returning to her quarters she began removing all of Charles' belongings and roughly stacked them in the corridor taking no care to make sure they did not break. She then changed the room authorizations took a long hot shower with real water and then crawled into bed. Melissa cried the tears of love lost until she fell asleep. Then she cried no more.

Hunter exited the turbo lift and stepped out. There, stowed in the corridor appeared to be a pile of personal effects. Hunter shook his head in dismay as he turned around and chimed Lt Atwood and Melissa Jarvis's quarters.

Melissa woke when she heard the door chime. She really did not want any company. The door chimed again. She gave up. "Enter," she said. She was surprised to see Captain Hunter enter her quarters. She stood up, "Sir," she said not able to mask the surprise in her voice.

Hunter could see the distress in Jarvis's face. He stepped inside, "At ease Ensign." looking around he could tell things were not as they should be. "I'm looking for Charles, the doctor said he'd be here resting."

Melissa strained to keep from crying in frot of the Captain. "He is off screwing his subordinate," she thought. "Captain, I Believe the Lieutenant is debriefing Sam Carter in her quarters." she said with am icy voice.

Hunter glanced about and then looked back at Jarvis, obviously something was not right. He broke eye contact with Jarvis, turning slightly, he took a deep breath. "speak freely Ensign...what's going on here?"

Melissa did not want to let on that she has entered Sam's quarters and saw them together. "What do I say," she silently asked herself, "Think!" "It would appear captain, that Charles has decided to take a new Imzadi." Melissa again stuggled to fight back tears. She would not cry in front of the captain.

"Melissa...." said Hunter with a pause, "Its ok, tell me what's going on."

A single tear rolled down Melissa's cheek. "Captain, I honestly do not know. What I do know is this, Charles was released from sickbay and instead of coming back here to me.. umm, our quarters he is with Sam Carter in hers." Melissa was not going to risk her career by telling the Captain she was in Sam's quarters.

"Computer, what is the location of Charles Atwood," Melissa asked.

"Charles Atowood is in the quarters of Sam Carter," the computer replied.

"You see?"

"Thanks for your report Ensign," he turned to the door and as it opened, revealing the pile of Atwood's belongings. He turned, "make sure this gets taken care of though."

"Yes Sir!"

"Carry on"

Melissa contacted Operations and asked that they assigned Charles new quarters and remove his stuff from the hallway. "That is the last thing I do for him," she thought.

Suddenly Teilani was interrupted by the sound of the sickbay doors. That was funny as she sat up straight to look through her office window she saw nobody. Then she heard a little voice: "Hello are you a doctor"? Teilani looked down and noticed a little boy of about 5 years old standing beside her holding up a finger.

"Yes I am, she responded. "And who are you?. "I'm Mark, the little boy said, and I have a sore finger".

Teilani smiled, "well Mark shall I then take a look at it"? Okee, came the reply. "Can you tell me what happened Teilani asked. "It got stuck, Mark replied. "Stuck between where", Teilani asked again.

Mark looked at Teilani with big blue eyes, before he said "Between Jacob's teeths. Teilani giggled, "I see, she said, shall we then make it all better". Mark nodded. Teilani looked at Marks finger which only had a little cut in it. She took the derma regenerator and held it against the boy's finger. "there, she said, all better".

The little boy looked at his finger, then back at Teilani again. "You have pretty hair, doc", he said. Teilani smiled. "It looks like it is on fire", he continued. Teilani smiled again, she liked these little conversations, children were so open, so uncomplicated.

"My mummy does not have such hair, he continued, it looks like mine". Mark pulled at his own blond hair. At the same time he said that, a young woman entered sickbay, clearly worried. "Doctor, she said, have you seen a little ………….. "Hai Mum, Mark said.

"Mark what did I tell you , never wonder away like that. I'm sorry doctor", she said apologizing. "It is o.k., Teilani responded, he just had a little cut on his finger, nothing serious". The young woman sighed from relief. "Thank you doctor, Doctor Dane, isn't it. Teilani nodded. "I'm Juliette Miller thank you for your help". "Your welcome Mrs Miller, Teilani responded, it was my pleasure".

"And you young man, Juliette said to Mark, no popcorn for you tonight". "But Mummy, Mark muttered. "No she said, now say thank you to Doctor Dane". Mark spontaneously wrapped his arms around Teilani's neck and kissed her on the cheek. "thank you". Bye Mark Teilani said, as he and his mum left sickbay.

Teilani smiled as she saw them leave and then felt some sort of sadness coming over her. Was she ever going to have a relationship, maybe raise a family?. Teilani shook her head as she went back to her office. "Nah, she spoke to herself, that would never happen". She did not dare to think of it. She walked over to the replicator and ordered: Coffee, Jamaican blend, double strong, double sweet. With the warm mug in her hands she sat back down at her desk, only a few more reports to do.

Crewman Wilson walked into sickbay. He had been assigned to transfer the two prisoners that the doctor suspected were from the kitty hawk attack to their restricted quarters. Sadness filled his heart as he remembered his only brother, who had been on the kitty hawk when. Anger began to boil over in him as he approached the nurses station.

Checking with a nurse he was directed to bio beds 1 and 2. He looked at the two prisoners. He did not recognize them, however, if the Doc says they were there he believed her. Drawing his phaser he shut down the containment field. "You two," he said in a gruff voice. "On your feet. You are being transferred."

"Thank God," said the man in bio bed one. This Doctor you have is delusional. The brig would be better than this place. I am telling you we have no idea what this Kitty hawk it."

Wilson cut him off. "Save it for your war crimes hearing."

Wilson tossed them each a commbadge. "Put these on."

The two prisoners did as they were instructed.

"Wilson to transporter room one. Initiate pre-programmed site to site prisoner transfer."

The transporter effect began and all three of them vanished only to appear again inside their guest quarters. "Computer initiate maximum security containment field."

"Give me back those badges. You will not need them now.," ordered Wilson.

The two men handed over the commbadges.

"It is now or never," thought Wilson as he pointed his phaser at them. "You murdering scum," he snarled. "You and your friends killed a lot of good people. Including my only brother. Now it is time for you to pay."

"W-What are you doing," asked one of them. "Put that down. We are scientists. W-we did not kill anyone.", said prisoner one. The prisoner could not believe this. He assumed that this would be sorted out eventually and that nutty doctor would be proven wrong.

"Shut-up, I do not want to hear any more lies. The Doc says you were there. I trust the Doc." Wilson forced the memories of his brother aside and fixed a deadly stare on them. "Good bye."

"N-no, wait, y-you have to believe us," said prisoner number two. Panic filled his eyes as he realized that this security officer was out of his mind. Was everyone crazy on this ship, he thought.

"The doctor is certain that you are guilty. That is good enough for me."

"She is mistaken. Please let your Captain do an investigation. You will see we are innocent," said prisoner number two.

"Forget it." Wilson turned up the power on his phaser. Pointing at prisoner one he fired.

Prisoner one fell dead to the floor. Prisoner two fell to the floor and began crying. "Please don't kill me. I did nothing wrong."

Wilson fired his phaser again and the crying stopped. Johnson turned his phaser to overload, placed it back into it's holster and sat down in a chair. "I have done this for you my dear brother," he said. Moments later there was a loud explosion and he was no more.

==Bridge==

Hunter was watching the view port while engaging in a casual conversation with Commander Wright.

Suddenly their was a rumble which shook the deck plates, the lights flickered and the red alert klaxon began to sound.

Hunter stood up and stepped up behind Riaan, stationed at ops.

"Sir," she said, "there appears to have been an explosion on deck 6. I'm not sure what caused it but it appears it has knocked the power out on that deck.

Hunter looked back at Wright with surprised look. "Sir, the explosion came from quarters 13, the two that Teilani stated were part of the landing party from the Kittyhawk, Security was escorting them there this afternoon.

"Seal off the area," instructed Hunter as he tapped his combadge, "security to deck 6" turning back to Wright he said, "let's go Number One."

Wright move towards the captain. "Yes sir. Right behind you."

Hunter stepped up tho the tactical station where Westfall was. ´Scan the area for explosives and any unauthorized personnel. Westfall nodded, ´Aye-aye Sir. ´I'll tie in on an open comm link between you and security team. ´Very well Mr. Westfall, you have the bridge, keep me posted said Hunter joining Wright on the turbolift.´Aye Aye Captain, I have the Bridge.¡ Hunter nodded, ´carry on." he said as the turbo lift door closed.

Westfall activated the cross-link from Command to the tactical station, to continue monitoring communications and sensor log analysis.

***

Ensign Bishop saw the Turbolift open and the Captain and Commander step off. "Captain....Commander," He nodded at them and continued towards the scene of the accident...leading his team behind them.

The team deactivated the containment field and proceeded. As they approached the area there was smoke and physical damage in the corridor Bishop had his men fan out and began searching the area,

"Did sensors say who was in the area, Sir?" Bishop asked, turning to the Captain. They'd not gotten the information....just told to move. "Two prisoners were assigned these quarters." said Wright.

Hunter looked at Bishop, "Do you know who was assigned to the prisoners?"

"Crewman Wilson, Sir. He was transferring them from Sickbay." Bishop nodded and went to confer with his men. A few minutes later, "Sirs....it appears that a phaser overloaded here."

Hunter tapped his combadge, "Computer, where is the location of Ensign Wilson?"

"Crewman Wilson is no longer on the Zion." chimed the reply.

"Well, lets go in." said Wright. "You lead the way Ensign.

Bishop nodded...sending his men in first. Hunter followed Wright in, he surveyed the room as Bishop took a scan. The fire suppressant device was obviously damaged as a fire continued to burn in the corner of the room. Other than the light from the small fire, it was dark, the crew used hand lights to explore the scene. There were greasy streaks of blood and identifiable dismembered body parts strewn among the rubble. Dorfer approached Bishop, he was gagging, he excused himself and left the area.

Hunter tapped his combadge, Westfall, have damage control report to deck 7 and deck 5 and inspect the adjacent areas until were done here."

Westfall replied, "Aye-aye."

"Sir....shouldn't medical be called?" Bishop asked.

"Yes, and get Melissa Jarvis down here as well." said Wright.

Westfall activated the shipwide page: Damage Control Parties to Decks five and Seven repled the computer.

Bishop tapped his combadge, "Bishop to Sickbay.....Please send a coroner team to my location." He closed the channel...then sent Ms. Jarvis a message asking that she also report to the scene. His men weren't finding much beyond the signature of an overloaded phaser.

Bishop had collected preliminary evidence and was discussing it with the captain. "...then you have everything you need Bishop?"

Yes Sir.....we've got everything we're going to find." He nodded.

"We should seal off this room Sir." said Wright to the captain as the crew from sickbay arrived and began the task of recovering the remains in theroom. Melissa Jarvis arrived shortly after that.

Hunter stepped out into the hallway. He turned back to Wright, "take charge of this matter, we'll be docking at Qul Tuq soon, I'll be on the bridge if you need me."

"Ensign Jarvis and Bishop. I want this room sealed off after sickbay is done."

"Aye sir."

"Sir," said Jarvis, "This was set up with maximum security in mind. There should have been surveillance on this room. I will go down to the security office and see if we captured what happened here."

"Very well, Let me know what you find," instructed Wright.

Melissa turned and left for the security office. She walked passed several cells full of Federation troops. One of them called out, "Hey what is a pretty thing like you doing with this Maquis scum."

"Shut-up dirtbag," she said as she walked passed them and into a small conference room. She pulled up the evening security logs and began searching for the deck 6 guest quarters.

"We are in luck," she thought as she found the logs she was looking for. Quickly she pulled them up and watched as the prisoners were beamed into the guest quarters. Her jaw dropped in disbelief at what happened next. She watched in horror as the two men begged for their lives before being murdered by Wilson. "Oh no," she said out loud as crewman wilson adjusted his phaser and sat down. She knew what was going to happen next but it still disgusted her as she watched wilson blow himself to bits. The log ended with the explosion.

Picking up A PADD she entered the video into her report. "Wilson said he had a brother on the kittlyhawk," she thought as she pulled up Wilson's service record. It made no mention of a brother serving the Maquis. She added the details of Wilson's service record to her report. She had enough for a preliminary report.

Jarvis to Captain Hunter. I have a preliminary report. Could I have a few moments with you and the Commander?"

Hunter tapped his combadge, "Please come to my ready room Ensign."

Jarvis came in and had a seat at Hunter's request. "Your report?" asked Hunter.

"Yes, Sir. I have reviewed the security video logs and have included them in my report for your review. Crewmen Wilson transported the victims to the guest quarters as planned." She paused. She did not want to tell the captain that one of his own crew had murdered these two prisoners. "He then killed each of them with his phaser. When that was done he overloaded his phaser which caused the explosion.

Hunter leaned back, rubbing his chin in deep thought. "Why would Wilson murder them?"

"Based on the statements he made during he crime his motive was revenge Sir." Melissa calmly looked at the captain.

What is his reason for revenge on these two prisoners," asked Wright.

"He claimed during the assault that his brother was killed in the kittyhawk attack."

"Why didn't we know about this Ensign?" inquired the Captain.

"I have also included Wilson's service record. There is no mention of him even having a brother let alone one on the kittyhawk." Melissa paused, "Other notes of interest from Mr. Wilson's record. He joined our crew when the ship was first commissioned. Interestingly enough, I can find no record of him ever having had a psychological evaluation. I searched all the way back into his academy records. He somehow managed to slip through the cracks."

Hunter drew a deep breath and sighed. "I know there is a war going on but this kind of thing can't be permitted to happen."

Melissa got up to leave. When she reached the door she turned and said, "Sir, might I make a suggestion?"

"Go ahead Ensign." said Hunter gesturing.

"We have been without a Chief Security officer since we began. We are doing the best we can under the circumstances, but I believe that we need to get someone in charge of the department. Perhaps if we had someone in charge we could have spotted this problem before tragedy happened."

Hunter nodded in acknowledgment of her statement. "I'll take your concern under advisement, dismissed."

As the door closed Hunter turned to Wright. "Murder." he shook his head in disbelief. "I don't have to tell you how disappointed I am over this situation." He stood up and looked out the window, "Notify the Judge Advocate General's office and see how they want to process this. I want do know how this happened."

He turned to Wright.

"Aye Sir."

"Anything else?" asked Hunter.

Wright looked as if he wanted to say something, but instead he just shook his head 'no.'

Hunter nodded, "Dismissed."

Riaan had spent a few hours making final preparations for the civilians that had survived the battle. Qul Tuq had a lot of civilians coming onboard and Riaan wanted to make sure everything was in order.

Riaan: "Computer, begin report to send to Commodore Walker."

It is with grave sadness to inform you that we have 23-orphaned children who have lost their parents. Several of the families from the Eagle have taken those children under their care until further arrangements can be made. I have sent a report to our Chief Counselor onboard but I am not sure how you want to handle this situation. I have enclosed a list of those children that have lost their parents and who the families are that have taken these children in. I realize this is a very awkward time for all and I am not sure if these children have any living relatives alive back in Federation Space. I feel that these children and family have risked their lives to escape some of the atrocities at some of the hands of the federation that have occurred while they were living there. I feel if you send any of these people back including the children who have lost their parents will be put at grave risk and maybe condemned to death or torture for fleeing the federation and speaking about some of the atrocities that have occurred while they were living there. I feel that this needs to be handled in a very delicate manner. I feel that these children, civilians, crewmembers and families should be granted an asylum and be allowed to live here within the Maquis or other planets that would offer them a home and give everyone peace of mind and not be in fear of their lives. They have already been through enough as is. I also suggest that a support groupe be setup where these people can meet and discuss their hardships and find away to heal together as a group or other victims that have been in the same situation as they. I realize that their maybe traitors within this group but this is purely speculation at the present but I wouldn't put anything past the federation after hearing some of the stories they have spoken to me and had asked that I please keep this between us and out of respect I will have to in order to help them feel not betrayed and give them a chance to feel safe and not threatened.

I give all the survivors credit for their survival instinct and for risking their lives for what they believed was a better life elsewhere. They all deserve some sort of medal for bravery but I understand that this is not visible.

Feel free regarding any concerns that you may have, Ensign Riaan - Operations Officer - USS Zion.

Riaan: "Computer, save report Commodore Walker, Survival Victims from the Federation."

Computer: "Report saved."

Riaan: "Computer send report to Commodore Walker."

Computer: "Report sent to Commodore Walker."

That was one less task that needed to be done. Riaan thought back through the hours and remembered the look of horror, pain, anguish and confusion in the children's eyes and hoped that one day they would learn to get over there nightmare as some saw there parents killed right in front of them. Riaan exited Operations Office and proceeded to the airlock to watch as the survivors disembarked from the USS Zion whereby they could hopefully pick-up the pieces of their lives and restart over in freedom and oppression.

Riaan was glad to reach Qul Tuq but figured they probably wouldn't be staying that long. She had placed the order for the supplies that needed to be restocked and had asked Jacob to tend to that and see that everything was accounted for and dispersed to their perspective departments and to inform her when the task was done. Riaan was feeling somewhat lethargic and stressed and needed a bit of a break and this was as good as any time now, as Riaan thought to herself not knowing when the next opportunity would arise.

Hunter came out of his ready room and sat in the command chair.

"We're commencing docking Sir." said the helm.

Hunter nodded as he pressed the intercom button. "Attention, this is the captain, As we are docking at Qul Tuq, I must remind everyone that this is not a R&R visit. The ship will remain under yellow alert until the refugees and prisoners are safely transfered. Captain out."

Hunter stood up and turned to Commander Wright, giving him the bridge, then he headed down to the transporter room and beamed over to Qul Tuq where he had a debriefing with the Commodore.

********** This is just a transitional piece to let everyone know we're now docked at Qul Tuq. The Zion will presumably be transporting the prisoners but we don't have any specific orders yet.

== Sickbay== Teilani was cleaning up the last remaining medical gear, as all her patients had been dismissed. She was just re-filling some hyposprays and compiling another list for the new supplies when a request came over the con, to despatch a coroner to deck 6.

She nodded towards her chief nurse confirming that she should go with him. Teilani wondered what had happened, it must have been an accident somewhere, hopefully it had nothing to do with the children. Teilani already walked over to the autopsy room, her services were probably needed later on.

It did not take long before the coroner and his team returned bringing with them only one body bag.

“Well doc, Coroner Cusman said, you’ve got your work cut out for you, there is not much left of them”.

“What do you mean by them, Teilani asked. ”Although we only have 1 body bag Doc, there are possibly 3 victims in it”. There was a big explosion, the room was devastated, the only thing we could do was collecting body parts

“Very well, place them on the examination table, any idea who they are, she asked. “Well the coroner replied, apparently it is crewman Wilson and some prisoners at least that is what we overheard”.

Teilani’s eyes got big, swallowing a lump in her throat, thought raced through her mind, it could not be ……………………… Carefully she unzipped the body bag, keeping her tricorder ready. It did not take long for her to see that the readings were the same as those of the two men she had discovered as being spies. There was nothing she could do anymore.

What had she done, she had condemned two people to their death including a young crew man. How could she live with herself. She needed to get away, away from sickbay, away from the ship. She needed to get some fresh air.

Teilani rushed out of sickbay, dropping her med.coat on the floor.

Renal was walking over the promenade toward the office of the supply master. He needed several non replicatable goods for sickbay. he stopped when he saw a woman hanging on the railing looking at the crowd with a glazy look in her eyes. Renal recognized the medical officer of the USS Zion.

He decided to stop. “Nice view isn’t it?” then he saw that she was looking at the refugees that where being taken off the ships . Teilani was looking down the promenade, well actually not looking, her thoughts were so far away, doubting, analysing, when she heard a voice asking "Nice view isn't it, Teilani looked up, recognizing her colleague from the USS Atlanta, "it's not too bad, she replied, looking back down again, "They look so lost".

“I imagine they feel like that as well.” Renal placed his hands on the promenade. “but then there are always people who would give you such clichés as ‘they aren’t lost until they lost their hope.’ ‘they aren’t lost as long as they got their families or part of there families anyway.’ But I’m not one of those people.” Renal looked down. “So many lives destroyed in this war, there lucky to be alive"

"I guess you right, she responded, but luck has nothing to do with it. “I simply can not understand why this war can not stop, I am so fed up with it, telling people their loved ones are dead. I know that us doctors decide who live or dies but sometimes I wish I could make it all go away”.

Renal was surprised she knew who he was. “ah there will be no end to that, you knew that when you took the job. Until the end you kill people, but the saving is the fun part. That’s what makes it worth it.” Renal got tired of standing “come lets drink a glass of bolian spring water at the Romulan restaurant.”

Teilani nodded, “alright she responded as they started to walk to the Romulan restaurant. "Tell me sir, I do see from your cloths that you are from the medical profession but I do not believe I have heard your name yet?” .

“Dr Ritza Renal, CMO USS Atlanta. And you are Dr?”

“Nice to meet you Dr Renal, I’m Dr Teilani Dane, CMO USS Zion”.

“ Getting back to our conversation Teilani continued, Doctor, when people die in sickbay I have no problems about it cause I know I have done everything in my power to fix them up”. I just sometimes wonder if I have made the right decision”.

“What decision did you make?” Renal asked with a light tone of voice.

Teilani sighed, she felt miserable. “To be come a doctor, she simply said. But she refused this feeling to get the upper hand. She certainly would not want another doctor to notice this. “Who are we to decide who lives or dies”.

Renal knew that guilty minds made weird jumps. He thought about telling her but she was already making a not-so-successful effort to conceal her misery so he tried a different approach.

In the mean time the waiter had placed some spring water on their table and Teilani took a sip from her glass. She felt the anger and frustration bottle up in side her, “You know Doctor Renal, I just would like to hit something or somebody

“Miss Dane” Renal said. “We can never fully understand the choices of people we don’t really know, why people are saved is an act of gods, or a choice human makes, with what ever your more comfortable” .He took a drink of the Bolian spring water. “Renal looked at her. “And hitting someone is never satisfactory”.

"No, I know but it feels damn good". Teilani took another sip of her water, suppressing the emotions bottling inside her, trying to control them. Then she smiled, trying to switch to another subject. "Tell me Dr Renal, how long have you been in the medical profession?

“my god let me see, well I guess that a little over 2 years now. First on a Klingon bird of prey and after that the Atlanta, my current posting.” Renal ordered an other bottle of Bolian spring water. “how long have you been a doctor?”

A little bit longer than you, Doctor, I spent 3 years on the Medical academy as a teacher and then 1 year on the USS Starchaser before I ended up on the Zion. and I really enjoy it.

“I can imagine that. Why did you become an doctor? I mean your obviously having trouble with your choice.” Renal took some of the nuts out of the little dish on the table, and leaned into his chair.

Teilani's eyes flickered, “I became a doctor in order to make a difference, saving and preserving lifes instead of destroying them”, she said with a cold voice and believe me doctor I DO NOT REGRET MY DECISION whatsoever”. Teilani took a deep breath looking at Renal, he suddenly reminded her Dr Freud. she did not know if she liked him or not.. She rubbed her temples, the same headache she had been having for days came back again.

“Than that’s your answer Dr Dane.” Renal smiled “You do not regret your decision. You preserved there lives even while they didn’t preserve the lives of so many others. You did that what you became a doctor for. The rest does not relate to you.”

I guess that’s true. Teilani responded, she kept rubbing her temples, that damn headache.

Renal saw her rubbing the sides of her head. “Kandavar herbal tea will get rid of your headache”

Teilani smiled, “ Maybe I am just too compassionate. Besides I hate herbal tea”. She laughed again. and especially kandavar its awful”

“Yeah it doesn’t really solve anything your taste butts will scream in pain, but that’s easily washed away.” Renal stood up. “have compassion for yourself dear doctor, not for the killed killers.” He nodded, he was already late. “good day doctor Dane I hope to see you again someday.” He turned around and within a few seconds he was out of sight.

Teilani watched Renal leaving. Then she waived to the waitress and ordered Sauran brandy, a double.

Back in the corridor, Ryan headed for the turbolift. He had one more stop to make. Less than a minute later, he was standing outside of sickbay.

When de doors opened, he noticed that sickbay was darker then the corridor. At first it looked empty, but Ryan knew better. He found Teilani sitting at her desk, looking at her console, figures ran over the screen, the fluorescent colour highlighted her face.

Ryan would have bet a month’s of emergency rations that the doctor had been staring at the same image for some time. Teilani looked up and Ryan saw that the good doctor carried the patient she had lost in her eyes.

“Hello Major, I was just catching up on some work”. Teilani started to get up. Ryan stopped her with a hand on her shoulder. Walking to the little replicator Ryan order a bottle of Saurian brandy and two glasses, he took them to Teilani’s desk as he sat down and then poured. Sitting opposite Teilani, he put the glasses down and said.

“There was nothing you could have done.” You saved Alice and healed the rest of them”. “You won more then you lost today”.

For a moment, Teilani didn’t speak. Then she said, “Does that sound so damned thin when I say it to you Ryan”?

“No”, Ryan lied.

“I thought so”, Teilani said.

Ryan took a sip of his drink. “You know Dr, I lost 26 men and women during the boarding mission, and just like you I feel responsible. Damn. We are… responsible. We’re responsible for the lives that are put into our hands and If even so much as one dies, we need to think whether or not it was our fault.”

Teilani nodded, she knew what he meant.

“That’s our duty as department chiefs. But that doesn’t mean that the answer is always us. I made a decision to put Dullard in charge of the team to take engineering, He made the fault killing almost his entire team. That’s not my fault, but I am responsible, I placed him in charge. You lost a patient today, I didn’t know him, I guess you knew him rather well. He got injured that’s his fault, and getting him better was your responsibility, but that he died is not your fault. Some things go beyond our control, We give orders, they are to be followed, If someone doesn’t follow them it goes wrong.” Ryan poured his glass down his throat, the strong but replicated taste of the brandy spread through it. “All we can ask ourselves, is DID we give the right orders, DID we do what we thought was right. In my case Dullard was an officer with 3 letters of recommendation, for stealth tactics and direct assaults. I assumed he knew what to do in the presented circumstances, he didn’t, but I did what I thought was right on 3 letters of recommendation. I made no mistake, he did.” Ryan didn’t know if he was giving her advice or confessing to himself anymore. “If you did what was best in your opinion then you did your job and sometimes responsibility bites.” He took an other drink.”

“I know that we have a great responsibility” Teilani said, and that we have to live with the decisions we make but it does not mean that I have to like it. You know us doctors, we decide who lives or dies”. We have the last say whether a person is fit for duty or not”. We only act in a persons best interest but it is often not appreciated”. Teilani suddenly got a déjà vu, she had have this discussion before.

”Families blaming us that we have not done enough to save a person. That is the hard part of our work making them understand that we did our best. I understand that death is merely a process of the failure of organs either due massive damage or due to elderly age. But sometimes I wish I could make it all go away, no more death, no more war, no more children growing up without parents, no more devastation.”

”We’d both be out of a job.” Ryan took an other drink “But your right you don’t have to like it, But have a sense or realism, families blaming you lost grip for a moment. And, especially to your job, there are beautiful things. In the marine there are a lot less.”

I know Teilani said with a smile. By the way how did Alice hold up, is she ok? Teilani asked trying to change the subject.

”Well I had bad news for her, her mentor died. And she was the only one good enough to become the new sniper leader so I think she’s goanna feel terrible when she realizes that her promotion is caused by the death of a dear friend of her.”

Teilani nodded, I see, you know I want to believe that the dead are not lost to us, that they speak to us as part of something greater than us, greater than any hostile force. And if we are powerless now, I want to believe that if we listen to what’s speaking, it can give us the power to save ourselves.

So maybe there’s hope for us yet.

They remained silent for a minute each lost in there own thoughts, then Teilani picked up her glass and said, “To absent friends”. Ryan raised his own glass “To the Fallen”.

Hunter smiled and extended his hand, "Congratulations Captain, job well done."

"Well thank you, i believe you have handled the situation quite well too."

"Thank-you Sir." Hunter said.

As they entered the Commodore's office they were greeted, having a seat they prepared for the debriefing.

Hunter and Hailey both gave their accounts of the events which transpired.

Hunter leaned back, "...so we have the matter of the refugees which will require processing by intel, the prisoners, the matter of the Wilson incident. We also have the device Sarik and Zent have been examining. Did I leave anything out?" said Hunter looking at Hailey for a look concurrence.

"I believe you gave a fulll analysis of the current situation. Lieutenants Sarik and Zent are currently taking the freighter into a secured area to study the device more carefully. They have little expanation so far. Also we learned that a scientist, Dimitri Glenvich, someone we think who knows more about the device was onboard the Zion and will be interviewd as soon as possible. Dr Sparrow, the believed creator of the device, is currently being treated by our doctor, but so far it has no effect." said Hailey

"Very well, i congratulate you both on a job well done. I think our intelligence can easily handle those refugees. We will have to locate a new home for them, but all in time. The device is rather interesting, we should start investigating it. I can think of no one better then your scientists." He looked at both captains.

Hunter nodded, "I agree."

Jennifer nodded too. "I think we can spare him for a while."

"Good well i think we have covered it so far. I will inform you if there are new events."

The two captains nodded and were then showed their way out under a comical joke of the commodore.

Back in the runabout's aft compartment, Sam was removing a bowl of couscous and a cup of broth from the replicator and trying very hard not let Charles's limp body unnerve her. She was tiered going back and forth attending to Charles, by giving him regular doses of medication. She was worried sick to her stomach, but forced her self to eat something, she would soon need all her piloting skills once they entered the badlands.

According to her calculations it would take another 4 to 5 days before they reached home, she had to hold on till then. Sam's arm throbbed with pain, where Rok had managed to stab her, she had changed the bandage regularly but despite it, the wound was red and definitely infected.

Sam heaved a sigh, rubbed her eyes, now burning from exhaustion, trying to keep some of her food down.

Suddenly in the corner of her eye a red light was flashing, sensors indicating a level 4 plasma storm was approaching.

"Computer time to impact?" 12 minutes 47 seconds the response came. Sam knew that she could not outrun this storm she need to find shelter behind a moon or an asteroid belt, to ride out the storm.

"Computer scan for a Class 3 moon or an asteroid big enough for the Euphrates". ETA to get there"?

"Asteroid belt detected, ETA 11 minutes 53 seconds, the computer responded.

"Shields up, Lay in a course at maximum warp, engage". Sam ordered. Sam frantically kept an eye on her view screen. A glittering cloud that filled the shuttle from bulkhead to bulkhead. There were swirls of plasma emanating from the cloud as if they were trying to catch the shuttle.

Sam coursed through the asteroids and managed to hide behind a big piece of rock. The shuttle shaked violently but the dampeners managed to keep it steady. Sam raised an arm to shield her eyes from the pyrotechnics still running amuck outside and as she looked out the viewscreen she saw a string of bright yellow explosions, large, small, blinding.

Then as suddenly as it had appeared the cloud had passed her. Sam sighed, hopefully the remainder of the journey would be without incidents.

"Computer resume previous heading", Sam ordered. With a small turn the Euphrates resumed its previous course. Only a few more days then they would be home.

=Qul Tuq Deck 7 section 69=

Hunter was leaving the Commodore's office and was walking down the section to the turbo lift. Suddenly as he rounded the corner, he was met head on by someone else carrying several travel bags. As they bumped the bags fell to the deck. Scattering their contents. Hunter took a step back, "Excuse me Miss," he smiled "I didn't see you coming around the corner."

"You wanna watch where you're going, huh?" Looking around herself on the ground....seeing her clothing scattered all over the floor. She gasped, "Oh good God!" She quickly began collecting the various bits of lingerie and stuffing them back into the bag they'd come out of.

Hunter, noticing the personal nature of the items resisted his instinct to bend down and help. "Would you like a hand with that?" offered Hunter instead.

"Do I....NO!" She scowled as she gathered up the last of her underwear. "Why would you possibly think I would want you touching my lingerie?" Her words came out as an irate whisper.

"Of course you wouldn't." chuckled Hunter offering his hand to help her up. He got his first look at her he recognized her. It was the Zion's inbound Chief Warrant Officer. He mused to himself, 'so much for first impressions.'

Once she got her clothing back into her bags, she stood up to her full height...and looked the man in the eyes. "Who do you think you are? The King of Qul Tuq?" Her brown eyes were hard...and she flipped her hair back over her shoulder.

"King? ...hardly" said Hunter trying to maintain a gracious composure, "no," Looking at the beautiful young lady, he asked, "...but where are you heading to so fast Warrant Officer?¡

She shot back quickly. "I'm a Doctor......" She broke off....remembering that she'd just gotten her comission. "....and a Warrant Officer.......Captain." Her eyes fell onto the four pips on the man's collar....

Alyssa had a very bad feeling that she'd screwed up big time. She was usually right about such things....last time she'd gotten this feeling, she'd accidentily triggered a rather nasty little booby trap in a Optian Temple. "I was headed to the ship I was just assigned to, Sir."

"I'm heading that way myself, may I give you a hand Dr. Northrop?"

Her eyes went wide, "You're.....you're....." she swore in Klingon. Regaining her composure, "Nice to meet you, Captain Hunter."

"The pleasure is all mine Doctor," said Hunter cordially.

"May I?" asked Hunter gesturing at the larger of the three travel bags.

Northrop felt too bad at the moment to turn him down. "Thank you, Captain....but you don't have to." Alyssa picked up the other two....keeping her personal bag close at hand.

Hunter picked up the larger bag, carefully swinging it over his shoulder

They began walking toward the docking ring where the station's transporter pad was located. Turning to Alyssa as they walked Hunter asked, "Is this your first assignment on a star ship?"

She nodded, "As a crewmember yes.....I was on a Federation Science ship for a while.....but myself and the Captain had a philosophical disagreement, so I left the ship at the next stop." She hefted one of her bags back up onto her shoulder...no looking at Hunter.

Hunter paused to let her catch up. He smiled, "A 'philosophical' disagreement? That sounds like a euphemism."

"Well...He insisted that some artifacts I recovered be given to a certain museum.....I didn't agree."

Hunter smiled, he had an idea what had happened. "So how do you feel about being a 'crewmember' now?" asked Hunter.

"So long as the Maquis continues to go in the direction that I'm headed....then I'm fine with it." She figured that Hunter would already know about her family....and that they were really the reason she was there.

"I've seen..." said Hunter with a pause, "..the federation do a lot of bad things." he said with distant stare. He stopped waking and turned to Alyssa, "And as long as I am Captain of the Zion, I will do everything in my power bring the federation down and see justice served." Hunter looked away for a moment. "We all have our own reasons for being here..." with a serious look, he turned back to Alyssa, "If you have any hidden agendas, I suggest you be upfront with me. Otherwise I expect ever member of this ship to do their part. " Hunter paused another moment, "I just want you to understand, this is a war ship, not a research ship." He set her bad down on the transporter pad. He smiled at her. "You know?"

"Oh...I've very aware that the Zion is a warship." She looked up at her new boss, "And I don't have any hidden agendas....mine are all right out in front...and that's to get my family back."

Hunter took her bags and set them on the transporter pad. Smiling he said, "Very well Chief, You are going to do just fine¡ he nodded, ´...just fine." Hunter tapped his com badge, "transporter room 2, luggage to beam directly to Warrant Officer Northrop's quarters.

´I don't suppose I could persuade you to call me Doctor rather than Warrant Officer?¡ She looked at Hunter and then looked away.

´I don't know..¡ said Hunter, ´I run a pretty tight ship, I'll see what I can do....¡ he smirked, ´...Doctor.¡

They watched as her stuff dematerialized. Hunter turned to Alyssa, ´Well I have a meeting to attend, Welcome to the Zion.¡ he said extending his hand. ´Thank you, Captain.¡ She smiled at him.

Alyssa turned and stepped on the transporter pad and had herself beamed to her new quarters aboard the Zion.

Hunter entered the Admiral's office and saluted.

"At ease Captain." Price smiled at Hunter. "Ian, it has been a long time."

Hunter smiled at Price and shook his hand, "Congratulations on your appointment here Max. Its wonderful to find you on this side of the war.

"It is good to be on this side of the war. So far Peaty and I like it better than dodging Federation assassins," said price with a sad expression on his face.

"How's the family, Sir?" asked Hunter as he tried to coax the Admrial's bird, Peaty, to eat a cracker from it's tray.

The parrot squawked and said "Admiral want a cracker?"

Price smiled at the bird and said, "All that I have left now is Peaty. The Federation is not a safe place anymore."

Hunter looked sympathetically at the Admiral who's face remain stoic. "I'm sorry to hear that Sir," said Hunter taking a seat at the Admiral's desk.

"I asked you here because I have made housing arrangements for our prisoners with the klingon penal colony Rura Pente. I need a good ship to get them there."

Hunter rubbed his mouth and chin nervously, "Rura Pente? isn't that a bit harsh Sir?"

Price remembered the General's mocking laughter when he requested the prisoners be given a small amount of care. "I have expressed my concern for their wellbeing to the staff at Rura Pente. I am sure they will not be treated too harshly."

Hunter smiled, of course he knew better. "Will they be given due process or are they being declared prisoners of war out right?"

No, we will need to process them first. I imagine there were several of them who will want to defect. Not all Federation crews are evil as you well know." Price looked at Hunter. "We should only send those who we determine are a threat to our security and those who have committed war crimes to Rura Pente. Now is not the time for war crimes tribunals, that must wait until after the war." said Price.

"Well, that shouldn't be a problem. It is a bit of a journey of course, about 45 days at warp 6. We'll have to plot a course around Federation space. I should think we'd want to go alone, cloaked." Hunter smiled, "It will be the Zion's first deep mission, we won't be back for quite sometime."

"Very good. Thank you Ian," said Price.

Hunter sighed, "Then there is the unfortunate matter of a crewman who murdered two federation prisoners and then blew himself up. The report has been submitted to your office. If you want to investigate it..."

Price frowned. "That is unfortunate, I will review your report and assign someone to investigate," said Price.

"As you wish, Sir" Hunter stood up and as the door opened, he turned and said with a light hearted salute, "Its good to see you here, Sir."

Inside Qul Tug, in one of the bars where you normally whould find any kind of the universe scum an stranger stepped trough the enterence of it and sat down at one of the Tables in the far corner As he sat down he took of the hood of the cape he was wearing, his face was kept in the dark so none whould know whom he was or what he was, whille his cape made sure they didn't see his uniform

As one of the serving girl showed up at the table and asked him if he wanted a drink "Just a Slug O'Cola"he replayed to her as he threw a few credits on the table

He few moments later he big glas of the Slug O'Cola stood in front of him, greenishe as it should be. But he didn't touch it, instead he used his trained ears to listened to what was said one of the things he had learned was that in places like this you could learn a lot about you're enemies and you're friends he hoped he had the lobes for it to make profit.

He also leared that the Zion had just docked on the Starbase, his next position, his next home. he grapped a PADD from a pocket on the inside of the cape he was still wearing he looked at it, it informed him whom the crewmembers of the Zion where, their positions, their likes and dislikes, their loves and their past, as far as could be tracked, Yes there was profit to be made here not quick, but slowly it whould made him rich, even it might take him a few years, that was why he loved to hang around here, the information could be used to turn into profit. He wasn't an intell officer but just a simple security Officer trained in a lof of aspects of it, as Security Offier, Security Investigations Officer, Brig Officer to Master at arms all of this had been part of his training.

He looked back at the PADD as the specs and deck listening of the Zion appeared, whille he kept listening to every word he heared around him athe Officer's quaters where at deck 6 or 7, whille the security office, armory and brig where at deck 5. Interesting he whispered, then he looked at the Crew recreations rooms. He was pleased as he put his PADD away

Just as he was about to leave the bar a fight started in the other end of the bar and in a matter of seconds the entire bar was in the fight including him.

Highwaij was the last one to been processed as they looked at him and started to talk Haighwaij spoke up "Gentelman, I might be able to help you, for a small price"

"Right, well looks like you're in trouble, so how can you help us" one of the security officers replayed

"Well I saw everything, and said for a good price I can point out the fighters to you"Highwaij said more comfertable

"Notnessesary, we saw it al on the cervailance monitors"he replayed "And it looks like you where fighting with them"

"I was noly trying to get out of the bar defending myself"Highwaij said hoping to get out of this in one piece

Then on of the guards notised his uniform under his cape, which he was still wearing "Whom are you"he asked at Highwaij

"I'm Highwaij security officer at the USS Zion"Highwaij replayed

"Well looks like someone is in trouble and will miss his ride"the security officers said to each other

"Help me get out and I will be fore ever in you're depth"Highwaij said as one of the quards checked out his dutyrecord

"He's telling the truth, and since the brig is full, but we don't want him to leave like this" he said smilling

"Sorry, you can't bribe us"the secirutyguards said as they putt the cuffs on Highwaij and walked out with him in their middle

Half an hour later they arrived at the Zion, Highwaij still wearing the cuffs and still walking in the middle, as they entered the ship they walked off the transporter platform, and wlaked to the officer standing behind the controlls. "We're looking for the Captain we got a small gift for him"they said as they pointed at Highwaij whom smilled at the transporter officer.
